I just had my 5 minutes of fun in the rain
I took out my Max to an empty Boeing parking lot and tried a few things I've been aching to do. First, I stopped in a shallow puddle, revved to 2,000 and released the clutch (lots of tire spin). Then I took the car to 30 mph and stomped on the brakes (A delayed stop due to the loss of traction). I always wanted to know the limits of the car in the rain as well as when dry. I think it's a good idea to know find out your limit with your car, so you won't be surprised when you have to stop suddenly. Anyways, I'm done with my fun, now it's time to get back to the 28 mpg average...sigh.
I agree, everyone ought to know their car's (and their own) limitations. That's why I preach so much about SCCA Solo II events. Down here in New Orleans, about 1/3 of the local events are in the rain! You would be amazed at how hard you can push a Maxima in the turns without skidding. And if you do skid, so what? You've got plenty of room (with no traffic) to recover.
