85 Stereo help

Alright guys, I need help.

Like anyone else who has owned an old Max, I need to replace the gosh darn stereo. I found a nice deck for a good price that has that brushed metal type look. Only problem is that the deck is 5" tall and the factory slot is only 3" tall. I cant find any kits for the 1985 on the internet. All the manufacturers models skip from 1984 to 1987. Anybody here replaced an 85? I guess I could take ou the equalizer/clock, but Id rather keep it (for the clock).

Any help?

First off, just about any headunit you purchase should have a clock display built into it. For that reason, I'd just rip all the old gear out, and replace it with the new, larger unit.

Re: Re: 85 Stereo help

go to www.crutchfield.com they have custom 1din dash kits for our cars wiring hookups for head units and speakers, trust me its a pain in the ***** to find out all the speaker wires cause oh lovely nissan made the front/back and right/left all the same color, the only thing nissan did was label negative wires, besides i think u will only spend 30 tops for parts and shipping

Thanks you guys. I think I found the same stereo on Crutchfield and they throw in all the stuff I need to intall it. Kudos to you guys. Just one more question now...

Should I go to the trouble to soldier or should I crimp?

Thanks Again guys

For the best connection possible, by all means, solder. If you decide to crimp, just make sure you've got good splices, and a good crimping tool.
