ok, I need the longest wearing tire on the market for 235/45-17. Forget performance... I now have the SP5000 and it's only been 8 months and I need new tires... It's been atlesat 25k miles.. but need more treat wear... ideas? I've looked up a few on tire rack.. but wanted to know if anyone knew of brands like General and such with really long tire wear...

thanks,
-Shing

honestly......

Maybe try Michelen. BUT there tires are really expensive in general. It *may* be hard to find ANY long lasting tire in a 17inch perf size. Remember....you gotta pay to play.

Shing, 25K is good!

My last set of SO2 lasted 8K miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats with 3K rotation, constantly checking alignment problems, and camber adjusted flat w/ camber kit.

No semi-performance tires going to give more than that.

Standard tires that are suppose to last 30 to 40K usually don't on an old lady's car, much less on your car!

Yea the sp7000 pirelli are hard, and should give you 30K or so if you pamper em, inflat em hard, rotate often, and w/ no neg camber in your alignment set up.

But then where's the fun?

You make good money, and live at home! Play hard!

Nitto 555 seems pretty good. Not the greatest in the rain but they sure last a long time. They can go about 40K miles.

Are you sure you don't care about performance? If all you want is long tread wear then get BF Goodrich Euro T/A's. they last pretty long, but the performance on them are pretty crappy and the tire noise on them are loud...but yeah, if you just want treadwear then get hose. I had them on my old 18's and they lasted a little more than 2 years.

My friend Jon (aka party_boy) runs Nitto 450's on his rims for the long treadwear. The grip isn't bad either. He runs them pretty hard and gets 45-50k miles out of a set. That other comment about Nitto 555 lasting long.... I don't think so.

When you guys say "should last 40K" what point are you referring to? To the wear bar? completely bald? I could technically still run these tires but since I can't seem to dial out the camber the passanger side inside is all but worn out.

Performance is not an issue. But road noise is. I just wished the SP5Ks would last an extra 10K. Then I'll be happy.

avoid those texas roads :)

you guys have a kind of road unlike any other I have been on (besides under construction). Its that rough as hell stuff. its like driving on a cheese grater. your tires ROAR on the stuff. you cant even talk to the passenger until you get to the smooth stuff. I think they sprinkle some tar over gravel and at 70 mph you just think a 747 is passing 10 feet over the car. I wonder if that stuff is hard on tires. I imagine it is.

I had two sets of Nitto NT-555. I put about 15K miles on each set and sold them with the rims. They are mostly highway miles. Anyway, after 15K miles there still seem to be around 75% of tread left. I never driven them until bold so the 40K is only a guess. I know the tread wear rating is not a exact science, but the NT-555 has pretty high rating. For the money, I guess NT-555 are not bad. Shing, how about those Kumho tires. Pretty inexpensive.

An excellent all-around tire.....should last you 40k easy. That's, what, a year for you?

Their $120, but outside of getting Michelin Pilots for $190 I don't know what else to tell you.....The Yokohama Avid H4s are worth a look as well....I think they're $106 each.
