"Blacking Out" the fender wheel well
A few options
assuming the plasticv ids in good shape apinting is not required. You can use an undercarriage spray for show quality or use a rubber dressing for everyday use. Make sure all the excess is wiped off. Remember though that any dressing may cause dirt to stick, so regular cleaning and dressing is required.
For damaged fender wells repaint or replace.

If they're just really dirty, I'll just get a plastic brush and go after them with some super clean or Simple Green stuff..
just jack the car up, pull off the wheel and get after it!
works great on pretty much the whole bottom of the car, but don't get that stuff on bare aluminum- it WILL damage the finish. (I made the mistake of spraying my engine down with it.. turned my intake manifold white!) Also be sure not to get it on your paint. it will immediately strip wax, and can possibly damage the finish. I've never had it hurt the paint, but I have had to re-wax parts of the car after I got a little careless with it. just rinse off immediately if you do get it on there.
If you want to get really shiny with it (like I do at car shows), hit it with some tire dressing once it's clean and dry. As Avalon said, you gotta pay more attention to it after that as it will pick up dirt much more quickly. usually I'll spray mine down for shows, then hit a car wash on the way home and clean that crap out of there before it gets nasty.

I did the spray paint thing on my Jeep and it looks great. Only trouble is that is plastic under the Maxima wheel wells and it will eventually chip off. Keep that in mind.
I usually blast mine with the pressure washer at the car wash and then when I shine my tires, apply Tire Foam to the plastic wheel wells, looks great and works well on the plastic.
And I tried to find the post but I can't.......whoever said to use tire foam on the engine compartment, what a great idea! It looks great and is so much easier than wiping every damn hose and cover with a rag and some Armor All.
