Strong fuel smell in exhaust of 94 VE
Strong fuel smell in exhaust of 94 VE
Ok guys I need help. I have a 94 VE 5 speed and here is what happened. The car started to spit raw fuel out of the exhaust pipe so I tore it apart and found an injector o-ring was leaking. I got that fixed but there is still the smell of fuel in the exhaust really strong and it's emitting a white smoke. So far I've :
-New plugs
-New O2 Sensor
-New Fuel Filter
The car is running ok with a shake at idle but above 2K it is still moving good. The other problem is that my MPG sucks. There is no signs of any fluids in the oil. I thought with the white smoke there may be a coolant leak into the motor but there is no signs of that. Also, There are no codes on the computer. This is getting to the point of me selling the car if I can't get it resolved soon.....HELP WITH IDEAS!!

If you didnt replace all the o-rings on all the injectors, then that may be your problem. Beck/Arnley makes a complete fuel system tune up for the VE, it includes ALL o-rings and gaskets to do the job, carparts.com sells it.
Also you may have a bad injector, it could be stuck in the open position, or the coil may be bad. Did you check the resistance for all of them (around 12 ohms).
Also if you want you can have nissan do a 'power balance test' (Only nissan can do this, no mechanic has the consult diagnostic tool). The power balance test will immediatley tell you which cylinder is'nt working properly.

Re: Strong fuel smell in exhaust of 94 VE
How many miles have you put on since the repairs? More than likely your exhaust sytem saturated with fuel it may take time to burn off. Also your cat might be damage, if there's one thing cat converters do not like is excessive/raw fuel. Take it out on the road for a 1-2 hrs of spirited driving, get the exhaust and cat hot and see what happens. That's taking into consideration that you haven't another leaky/malfunctioning injector or fuel lines.
You might also need a new cat if you've been running rich for a while. The cat gets pretty freakin hot, and any unburned gas that hits the ceramics in the cat can and will ignite on it. This could really mess it up, so check.
Well, After a weekend of working on it and runnig it I found that the Rear middle injector(the one the mechanic said he fixed) is still leaking so back to the shop it goes so he can fix his screw up on his dollar. Thanks for the info guys.
