Passport 8500 Saved you or screwed you?

Just curious as to whether or not the Passport 8500 is any good or not. Have you ever been saved by it? Did it ever fail you and you got nailed? Thanks.

Re: Re: Whoa!

The passport escort 8500 has been tested along side the likes of the Valentine 1 and the belkin 850. I have the belkin and it has saved me quite a few times on the freeway but you have to remember that a radar detector is only a tool not a guarentee or fail safe. I know that from several sources the valentine 1 has been found to be the "best" radar detector, but with the hefty price tag it isn't very economical. The escort and the bel are pretty much dead even to round out the top three, I would say buy either one, I'm very happy with mine and I've dodged a few tickets by owning one. Whatever you do don't buy one from circuit city or something like a cobra detector!!! GL

Do a search for radar detector test" online. Then make up your own mind. The top 3-5 come down to how much money you want to
spend. Don't buy a radar detector that is not rated excellent or very good at K and Ka bands. It may get you a ticket instead of save you from one. You get what you pay for.

I have a Bel 950. It works very good.

It's saved me at least twice. I've had it for almost two months now. The V1 may have better detection and definitely has a better remote unit. I got mine for 240 off ebay. If you have 400 dollars, go with the new V1 1.8. If you don't think you can justify the 400 dollars, go on ebay and pick up a 8500 for 250 or so. I have the remote kit mounted in my car and I'm happy with it. The 8500's remote kit isn't good for much more than muting the detector without reaching up. The V1's remote kit has arrows on it. =)
