How many dyno runs does it take

to dyno-tune a car? I will be dyno-tuning after I install a S-AFC (and CAI) and I'm wondering how much it's going to cost me.

The subject reminded me of the Tootsie Roll pop commercial.

1-2 hours. It all depends on how much you want to beat on the car to extract the most power.

Hmmm. Okay, maybe I should rephrase. Will four runs be enough to tune the S-AFC so that it is within, say, 10% of optimal? I'm not sure if that makes any sense since this is completely new territory for me, but I gather that you start with a run, check power and AFR, tune the S-AFC in the rpm ranges where it doesn't look optimal, do another run, compare results, do some more tuning, etc. Is this basically how it's done?

I believe I had to do like about 6+ dyno runs to get the line in my dyno as straight as possible...

thats over an hour in your in Lousiana your good you have 3 hours for $150, also if the guy knows how to work the SAFC very well should not take long tooo long like the guy did to my SAFC yesterday. My Dyno day will be thursday.

the shop i took my car too charged $100 per hour. took about 7 runs to get it right

I've been trying to get in touch with a few places to get my car dyno tuned. I want to take it where MardiGrasMax recently took his here in MD. Someone told me he spent 2 hours tuning, maybe because he has more mods to configure, I don't know. Hopefully I get the same S-AFC tuner and hopefully he knows how to work the S-AFC2.

Everything is ready to go, just have to get my baseline to figure out which rpm points to set and and adjust. I have a session tomorrow for an hour or more. I'm still learning the math, but I'm planning on adjusting the S-AFC2 myself and if he's available, he says he can probably help me with the adjustments. Hopefully I don't need more than 1 hour, I don't want to pay another $85 for the 2nd hour and come to find out thta I only needed like another 10 minutes.

thats fcked up if he charges you for a couple of more mins this dude we went about 1hr 30mins and only charged me for one hour. Hes a very cool guy like that. In any case the SAFC is not hard to tune, you should dyno first and then set the RPM points. It is set up to 8000RPMs he removed those and added the other useful RPMS if you know what I am talking about since our fuel cut off is @6600 somewhere around there.

Yea, hopefully they don't pull something like that with me. Matt happened to dyno there a couple of times so I guess if he shows, I guess he can help me talk to them about that or other things. Once I get the baseline then I'll find out what to set up in the NEPoint screen (rpm points). Here's my little thread that I posted in the Wash. DC forum.

IT took me like 20 runs to get my car tuned with a S-AFC. We did it in 1 hour! Yeah , the car was really HOT. Make sure u take an ice pack with u to put it on your charge pipe. It helps a lot with the cooling of your compresed air.

Ok, so after all this time I thought I was running lean because I would keep getting the right/left bank lean codes, but I was running rich at about 10.80 - 11.20. Thanks to MardiGrasMax, he helped me lean the S-AFC2 to get my line to about 12.1 - 12.3 all the way across, which got me about more 21 fwhp and 18 ft-lbs torque. My baseline run was 253.79 MAX POWER, 238.85 MAX TORQUE, and on the 9th and final run of the hour I hit 275.01 MAX POWER, 256.78 TORQUE.
