Do Catman Cold air intakes give out more performance than the K&Ns?

I have a Stillen Hi-flow intake installed in my car and I cant see any difference in performance. Does anyone know if the Catman cold air intakes are better?

The overall answer I seem to remember seeing is "yes", especially since they suck in cold air and all the Stillen intake does is suck in lots of hot air.

In keeping with the theme of recent posts, try looking up CAI or cold air intake, etc with the search feature. The topic has been covered many times.

and look up "SI vs CAI" or something like that...there is a link that leads to a discussion on which is really better...some believe the SI is actually better because it gives a higher flow etc...

intakes

there is a post here (couldn't find it) with dyno data that could not find a real difference between the SI and CAI. The gains are to small to accuratly measure. I'm still getting one but havent made up my mind yet on either.

Dyno Data

after a long hard-fought debate, it seems that the stillen intake is better (at least on these cars) at the high end, and before that it's too close to tell.

And then, of course, there's always the Air Silencer CAI . . .

For an outlay of roughly $50.00, it may give the same performance as either the SI or the Cattman (Place Racing) CAI.

Check out the link in my sig.

That post was probably mine made about 2 months ago. However, I tend to disagree with myself now based on track testing. It seems that stagnant air on a dyno doesnt allow the CAI to prove its worth when compared to the underhood intake.

I made numerous 1/4 mile runs with the CAI and the underhood intakes. The CAI runs were always substantially faster. I cannot prove anything beyond this. I can only say that my car runs much faster with the CAI. And thus, I now use the CAI style of intake.

The Cold Air Intakes are much better than the Stillen POP or JWT POP. They suck in much colder air.

Also wanted to say that Cattman does not make Cold Airs. He buys them from Place Racing, and that is who makes them. Wanted to clarify that.

What abour RAM air intakes?

Is that considered a CAI? How do these perform?

I have two concerns about the CAI . . .

The first is water ingestion through the CAI which, to the best of my knowledge, has NEVER happened to any Maxima with a Place Racing CAI installed (or at least not to any Maxima that we're aware of), and the second is voiding the warranty for intake-related issues. If something goes wrong with the intake . . . and I understand that sometimes things DO go wrong with an aftermarket intake installed . . . it's easy to replace an underhood filter with the stock airbox before taking the vehicle into the dealer for service. But how on earth could anyone explain away the hole that's left in the fender when the CAI is removed?

At the risk of repeating myself, I still think the Air Silencer CAI is the way to go. No holes, cheap as hell, and if you can believe 2K2DEMAX (who, unfortunately, seems to have disappeared), it works!
