On my last oil change, I went shopping for the oil: Mobil 1 5w/30 (NOT synthetic). I went to four stores in the Atlanta area: AutoZone, Pep Boys, Wal-Mark, and K-Mart. None of them carried 5w/30 and only a couple even had a Mobil 1 product on the shelf.

I even looked at a couple more places to no avail.

The only place I can find it is Target.

Just driving around to all of these places amounted to a need for an oil change.

What's up with that?!?!? Is it not popular, too popular, or is Mobil on strike?

In dallas if you have the tiger mart keychain for exxon the oil is only like 2.50 for 5w30 synthetic.

Sams and costco has ample supply as well

Has anyone gotten Mobil one put in while getting an oil change at their dealers? If so, did you have to provide it to them, or did they stock it. Can you go 7500 mile safely on it. Anything else I should know about it?

I gave

them 5 quarts of Mobil One at my last oil change. I got back 1/2 quart Not sure how much they charge for this as they did it for free(my car was in for all that crap about my screechy engine mounts) I do know if you don't provide them with the oil they want 60 big ones for a synth change.

Matt..now that you mention it, the shelfs on some stores Ive been have been a little lean on the 5W/30..then again some others have had cases...not sure what to make of it..

As long as they have it in the next 3K miles

I'm gonna check out Costco. Perhaps they carry it. Kind of ridiculous Mobil is a more popular brand yet nobody carries it or is out of stock.

I was tempted to simply change brands for sake of conveinence. I remember going through the same song-and-dance, the last 3,000 miles, in that I had difficulty finding the oil.

Eight thousand miles is not excessive for an automobile using Mobil One or one of the other fine synthetics, my last vehicle, 1996 Mazda MX6 w/125K miles and running like new. Three thousand miles is a waste of your money, if you feel guilty buy a nice filter, e.g.-MobilOne, K&N.

Keep looking - it's worth the trouble. PS - Mobil 1 is always and only synthetic.

Nissan dealer wanted 70 bucks for a full synthetic oil change using either castrol syntax or mobile one.

So I just said screw it.

Local oil change place using your own oil 10 bucks

I only seem to use 3 and a half quarts.

Are you looking for Mobil's regular oil? If so look for their Drive Clean Oil. The Mobil 1 is strictly synthetic. Mobil 1 goes for $ 4.49 qt @ Walmart & Pep Boys in Houston. What's everyone else paying?

I mistakenly said "Mobil 1". It is really "Mobil". "Mobil 1" is only synthetic. I stand corrected.

In all of those stores, I saw only a few bottles of the synthetic stuff, and it was around 5 or so. It was significantly more expense, but it didn't register in my brain because I was looking for the regular stuff.

Why don't you just go to a Mobile gas station? For about 20 to 40 bucks, they'll perform an oil change using Mobile oil (synthetic or non) and also change your oil filter to a mobile brand.
