ran the 1/4 mile today

I have a 97 5-speed with a budget y and frankencar intake. I took it to the strip today and turned up 15.5 and a 15.6 backed by another 15.6. I am a little disappointed as i thought my car would do better than that. My 60 foot times were 2.25 and 2.26 and my mph was 88-89. I thought i would run a 14.8-15.2, Maybe its the bad Knock Sensor?

They are decent but definitely could be better. www.FrankenCar.com for the intake.

Do you use premium gas? When was the last time your oil was changed? Spark plugs? What was the weather? Most '97+ don't have the knock sensor problem but its definitely worth looking into.

No, those times suck, no offense, just being honest. A 4G 5spd with i/y should be in the 14's. Your trap speed should be in the low 90's, so it suggests that your car is sick or that your way above sea level. Also, a bad knock sensor can really kill performance, so if your's is bad then that's why.

hey, could you give all the figures from your timeslip?
seems like you're driving damn good judging by the launch, but your max isnt making as much power as it should be.

trap speed is low - indicator of lower than normal power, esp for intake/ypipe.

check your engine codes for knock sensor (won't have CEL), spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors, clean throttle body. something is holding you back from making a lot more power.
once you find it...you're definitely in the 14's

Run the codes from the ecu and see if you get the knock sensor code.

Wow, that is what I usually run in the 1/8th. That's with everything stock and 80 degrees outside and 80% humidity. I hope it's just your knock sensor.

if you're stick then thats pretty bad too. if you're auto then tahts right on target.

bill4max, switch up that knock sensor for a good one, and im pretty sure you will see a 0.8 second improvement

Check your knock sensor. You should be running much faster than that with your good 60' times. I ran 15.62 with a stock automatic.

Looks to me like your car is down about 40 hp from where it should be. Better start checking things, your traps should be about 6-7mph higher than they are.

well my ks is bad definetlly as code 0304 comes up by itself also i have checked it and there is no resistence meaning an open circuit. I dont get it though because i have good 60 foot times. Do you think more is wrong than just the knock sensor?

Yes, your 60' times are good, but you aren't making any top-end power with a dead KS.

Doubt it.
