The true "dry" weight of the GXE, SE, and GLE
The true "dry" weight of the GXE, SE, and GLE
While scanning NADA.com today, I noticed something interesting. The listed weights of the 96 GXE, SE, and GLE seemed pretty light. I made a call to NADA just to see if anyone knew how the weights were determined for the cars. I really didn't expect a good answer, but I got one. NADA said that they use the manufactuers listed dry weight which means no gas, oil, or coolant. The weight of each model typically shows the lowest priced verison of that model so if it was a GXE, it would be a 5 speed with the least options, a 5 speed SE with most minimal options, etc.
Here are the weights:
GXE: 2886
SE: 2895
GLE: 2982
As we can see, the barebones GXE weighs a whopping 9lbs less than the barebones SE. The standard heavily optioned GLE (leather, power seat, moonroof, auto, climate control) weighs in only 94lbs heavier than the base 5 speed GXE.
I'd say this is a definative answer and we can get a pretty good idea of how much options like moonroofs, power seats, and autos actually weigh (~40-50lbs).
I'd like to point out the auto isn't as heavy as everyone makes it out to be. Granted the auto contains more fluid than a 5 speed, the difference in weight between the fluid-filled trannies is only around 30lbs judging from the GLE's dry weight.

I've heard that the max se 95 (my model) weighs in at about 3055 but i have all the options except the heated seats. Just a funny tid bit i've heard but, the next Mitsu Evo VIII weighs in at 4222 when i read that i died laughing, that thing is no bigger than a civic and it weights 1k more than our cars. That pretty much makes up for the 100 extra hp is has on our cars. It would probably be a fair race. I know i whipped a 3000GT or 2 cause they weigh as much as small suv's.

lol, EVOs do NOT weigh anywhere NEAR 4000lbs. Dont believe everything you read in magazines either. Some mags report the evo only doing 14.2 in the 1/4. Thats probably a good .4 tenths off. Also, maybe you beat a 3000GT N/A tonygotskillz, but NOT a 3000GT TT.

It being a missprint must be right, cause 4222 didn't sound right, especially with the performance numbers they were talking about. I read it in super streets march issue. Oh well wouldn't be the first time super street was wrong.
