intake and y-pipe

i finally got a job and a credit card, so its tim to finally start modding my max. I was just wondering what intake would benifit a 5-sp the most. I'm looking for more top end power. the reason why is cuz me and my friend(02 celica gts)went at it; I had him the whole way until he pulled on me in the very end and beat me by inches! ( he had cai and full exhaust. And also are all y-pipes the same? which one would also benifit the max the most? thanks for any info.

oh yea, intake and y-pipe would have you beaten your friend by car lengths... the y-pipe will give you most top end i think after 4000 rpms.. you are 5 speed right?
