Tinted/Smoked lights

I am planning to tint/smoke my bumper lights. For those who have done it, what are the directions and what materials did you use??

And...is "tinting" and "smoking" the lights the same thing?

If there is a tuner shop around you you can buy smoke spay paint for lenses. I guess tinting means putting tint film on them like your windows and smoking them is spray painting them.

Hmm.. i see. I heard someone used "testors" brand paint. Theres a hobby shop by my house that has a lot of testors model paint, so maybe ill swing by today and see if they have smoke spray paint.

If they don't, you can always buy it from the testor's website. They don't rip you off for shipping and I think it's at most, $4 a bottle.

I have three brand new cans of the smoke tint spray (recommended by Requin6) since I decided to not smoke my tails.

Yup that should be it. PM Requin 6 or maybe go to his homepage for more details on the procedure. And I don't think you have to use the high gloss.

you mean up this right? its very easy to do. I purchased the paint from procarparts.com. I think it was like $20 or something, i dont remember for sure. Anyway, all you have to do is take ur bumper lens(orange or clear) and lay them down and just spray the paint on. Coat it on about 2 times if u want it nice and dark like mine or you can do it lighter, its up to u. The clear coat is mixed with the paint so no worries about that. here is how mine turned out

Are you allowed to have any other lights painted like that? Like for example can the headlights or corner lights be smoked out as well?

How do you think this would look on a black 97 with red/clears?

There's a misconception with smoking lens and light output. For blinkers, I think it will actually appear BRIGHTER since there's a contrast of a dark lens and an orange light (as long as the smoke isn't too thick).

That's why you see other cars, say, like the old C-Classes with the smoked clears still have decently bright blinkers. If anything, smoking lenses might actually help in the daytime, especially for those with clear corners or aftermarket red/clear rears.
