Idling higher than normal

When I stopped my 92 Maxima GXE after driving it. The idling / tacometer goes over 1500 rpm. What would be the reason. - Thanks

tafan321: your conditions are very normal

naveed1966: Does the tach stay at 1500? or does it drop very slowly to a normal idle?

Idling

I was being impatient. I wait for it to drop for a good 2 minute and then I left. At least it stays at 1500rpm for couple of minutes. I will test it tomorrow.

had the same prob with mine at one point could either be your throttle body sensor or your water temperature sensor. The water sensor measures the temp of the coolant, when the engine is cold of course the coolant is also, so when the coolant reaches the proper temp it sends a signal to reduce the idle speed. Check on the throttle body also. If it is faulty it may be letting too much air into the combustion chamber dont quote me on the location but too much air and the car thinks that you are pressing on the throttle. Let me know if that helps? I know if I am wrong I will be corrected.
