What do the coils look like?

I took my car(92 maxima SE) to a nissan dealer because of the hesitation (see my prevous post) and they told me it was the coil #3 who was bad and they told me that it was better to change them all. I am about to change the coils on my car and I would like to know:
1-What do the coils look like?
2-if i can change them myself, they are asking for $1187.00!!!!Do I need to be careful with anything?
3-Is it a good idea to buy them used (with a warranty of course)in a junk yard.
If somebody could send me a picture and/or a how to do manual, I would really, really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

coils are easy to replace so I say do it yourself and save A LOT of money from that quote.

Get new ones from Courtesy Nissan here they are 58.37 a piece and you need 6---3 front and 3 rear...the front and rear are different so be sure and get the right ones.

if you look at the top of your engine and in the middle of your valve cover on the front there are 3 round flat looking pieces that have a screw holding each one on...those are the front coils.

The rear ones look similar but have 2 screws holding them on.

just be careful with the connectors and wires and you should be good to go.

Good luck,

Yeah its a definite do it yourself. Very easy to change. $1187.00 is a ridiculous amount. Just buy the coils and do it yourself. All you need is a 10mm sockets and you're ready. The front ones are very easy the back ones are simple also. When you buy the new coils you will be able to recognize which one they are on the engine bay. The front three are above where it says 24 twin-cam in red, the three black things. In my picture below, click on it, you will be able to see them and the back coils are right under my strut brace. So just remove the screws and disconnect the connectors and pull the old coil out and put the new one in.

Good luck

With about $350 or so for parts, that leaves over $800 in labor cost to do this simple tasks! What a ripoff. Do they use supermodels to do the work or what?

Tijkane, looks like this board has save you much $$$!

Thats the purpose of maxima.org....to help. $800 is too much, damn Nissan dealers I wonder how they came up with that estimate. If you feel generous from your $800 savings I take paypal....

They are charging $193/each coil! It is the Nissan dealer in Attleboro(MA)(aka FireSide Nissan).
I called the Courtesey Nissan in TX and the told me that shipping was only $10.00!
TO save money yes I did!
Thanks to you guyz!
