New idea for Max.org stickers
hah...i was just about to post something on that....wtf is up w/ this site? is it just me? it seems slower than normal sites and sometimes there are 30 min. periods where i can't even connect to any of the forums or anything...really pisses me off when i see something i want to read
If I had a sig that took up two complete screens at 1024x768 res, I wouldn't open my mouth to even wimper...much less get "pissed" off...

Well, we all know that the majority of users run at that high of a res..<cough> Sorry, take your machine to 800x600, scroll for awhile and you'll see what the majority of surfers see when browsing. You might even try 640x480, many still use that setting also. They don't know any better. :-) Just kidding to those that run that low..to each their own. It's a *****, I know, I deal with it everyday in web design. If everyone ran a minimum of 1024x768, what beautiful and tidy web sites we could all have. It's all about consideration of others.
Does your pic really have to be that large and couldn't your mods be listed with simple comma's in between like many on here, instead of the bullet fashion? Will give ya credit tho, your pic is 50kb, I've seen them coming off a digital camera that size and being 10 MB. Running the res you do, I'm sure your pic is a nice size, but try it from the standpoint of others and see if you feel the same.
And I disagree on what makes the site like it is. It all adds up and affects the use of resources that are used for the site. Not sure what you mean about different sections, if you want to browse to different sections on the same site, yes, the same system is being "hit", still chugging to fulfil the request that it has been given, and if resources are maxed, they are maxed no matter where you go on the site. It's all about the number of requests and the size of the data packets that are hitting the server. If we, as users, can reduce the size of the information we are sending, by reducing sigs and carefully editing messages we respond too, it would, even if in a small way, help the load on the server. I will even make a note to be very concious of the "books" I tend to write in responding. :-) If you click on an outside link, most are geared to open a new browser window and therefore, should pop right up as it's not hitting the same server. Getting an error message on one site trying to access a database, shouldn't affect your surfing in another browser window on a different site.
I get the error messages also. Tried responding to a few posts yesterday when I was home for lunch but couldn't. Was frustrating, yes, but until I pay for use and I do everything in my power (small sigs, etc.) to lessen the resources from the "get-go", I don't think I have reason to complain, especially not in the "tone of voice" that I have seen.
Not meaning to pick on you specifically MrBurner. If you were the only one who had a sig this long it wouldn't be an issue and I would say the same thing to them. I just imagine more stringent guidelines coming down the road unless some make some concessions now. I just don't think it's very fair of us to use this site at no cost, "take a mile" of the kindness we are afforded by the very generous sig space that is allowed here, and then complain about it.
And this thread has nothing to do with a 2000 maxima and I dont know how to get it out of this section. :-(

I don't quite agree with this statement. While his signature is large, it doesn't really make the site any slower. The picture (like most if not all in sigs) is loaded from another server, so the only load is from the html in his sig. If he just seperated his mods with commas instead of listing them like he does, he'd shave a few bytes off but the change would be negligable.
I do think it's rather large as far as aesthetics go, but I don't think its screwing up the site.
Just my two cents.
