I plan on getting some aluminum kit for my 96 I30, but since it comes with stock wood trim, I was wondering how aluminum looks over it. Will the wood show through at the sides? What about the window controls? It seems like lots of the wood would show through there. If any of you guys could post pics of your results of this, I would appreciate it.
What are some things I can do to fix this problem, aside from swapping the whole dash with a stock black one? Do you guys know of any kit that fits the entire I30 dash? The top portion is slightly different than a Max.

You should find someone local to swap out the wood kit.

You cant just remove it like that you have to swap out the whole piece thats what i had to do for my GLE swap out for my buddys with no woodgrain. Brian

you can always paint the wood grain black.. then put the dash kit over...

 

I did this, and it all worked out fine. Just take off the wood 1st, then use a glossy black spray paint on it, let it dry, re-install it, and place the new aluminum kit over it. mine looks tight.

 

got any pics of it finished? how did you get the window pieces off? can you just pry off each piece, or will i need to take apart the dash? any tips would be helpful. thanks. has any of the paint worn off yet?

 

I don't have pics, but it's been 100% since i did it 2 years ago. all you need is the right paint (glossy for plastic). The window switch plates slide and pop off for you to paint. As for the dash, start by prying off the wood around the tranny, then you can work you're way up towards the radio and clock area. you really only need a screw driver. and be carful not to break anything. there should be dash install instructions on the .org
