Subaru Legacy GT Vs. Maxima

Hey guys,
I am new here and not a troll I am geniunely interested in what you guys think about a Legacy GT and your car. I currently have a 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5rs and I think I want something bigger and a little more grown up. I have narrowed my choices to a Maxima or a Subaru Legacy GT. I was thinking about a Acura TL but I think a Maxima can do everything a TL can do a little better and cheaper. I love the Maxima's look and interior and sweet engine but I am a big fan of AWD now. I had a 325 BMW that would oversteer like crazy which was fun but it can get a little hairy when its raining hard. What do you guys like about your car and what do you know about a Subaru Legacy?

Subaru's are great for bad weather.. but are boring to drive unless it is a WRX.

Ask Dave B, he has both cars.

I have a Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT, and I also have a Maxima SE. I love both cars, but in different ways. I love the way the scooby drives and steers, but it definatly needs more power. I love the way the maxima rides and i love the engine, but i don't think that it has the overall refinement of my Subaru. Even with 80,000+ miles on the Legacy, it still feels more refined and better built than my 45,000 mile Maxima. oh yeah the scooby is also 3 years older as well

I have a highly modified NA 4th gen 5 speed while my wife drives a 98 Legacy GT wagon automagic. Here's my take on the comparo:

The Scooby has far better steering.

The Maxima flat out blows the Scooby away in any acceleration run assuming the ground is dry We're talking about a car that's running mid/lower 14s vs one that would be lucky to hit a high 16.

The Scooby has very classy and timeless lines.

The Scooby seems to be put together better and the paint is lightyears ahead of Nissan.

The Scooby has dual-piston front brakes!!!! I was amazed.

The Maxima is much roomier for people.

The VQ in the Maxima makes amazing sounds and the flat four in the Scooby is a bit mechanical.

Maxima's have more mods available plus they're easy to extract power from. The NA flat four 2.5 160hp in the Scooby is far from easy to make extra power.

If you've got the money, wait. Later this year, Subaru is bringing over a turbo Legacy GT along with the turbo Forester I would bet the GT will get a mildly detuned verison of the 2.5 300hp WRX STi motor (I've heard 270hp). This in my opinion would be the ultimate non-Rally Scooby. Low 14s should be easy to get out of the 3300lb GT 4-door.

There's a guy that I usually hang with at the local Auto X events...
he's got a gorgeous white Legacy GT with SSR Comp rims.. running WRX springs on it for some lowering effects..

the guy consistently beats my pants off at the track.. about 4 sec per run faster.. he's only about 0.3 sec slower than a national Solo II contender in a modded WRX.

how's that for not being very fun to drive?

It may not have a ton of power, but it can corner and stop like nobody's business!

If the GT Wagon uses the EJ25 like the 2.5RS, then you have the option of dumping a EJ20 in the car. My friend just did that for his 2.5RS. Sure, the car hasn't run in a month and we're still working out the bugs. But it did run for one night and damn it was fast. =P

I think id like a subaru but I just cant find a used GT. But everytime I see a maxima it turns my head. Its great to have a car with so much power and style for a reasonable price. I dont know who would want a Acura when you can have a maxima.

The Legacy always looked really nice. Becaue in Japan they got the B4!!! 280hp twin turbo! I saw one in the dealer in Japan. Damned nice!

I would wait and see if Subaru is going to actually import the B4 version(or similar) to the USA. Since the WRX is kicking **** in sales here, they were considering bringing more of their performance line to the usa. You would be kicking yourself if you bought the na only to have the turbo version show up next year.

My stepmother has a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT Sedan. I think Dave pretty much hit the nail right on the head.

The Subaru (as are all) is very easy to drive in bad weather. My stepmother has a 5-speed, and its a tad clunky and frequently makes nasty grinding noises.

I love the way the car looks and rides. If it weren't so under powered compared to the Max, I would have been very tempted to buy it from them.

The flat four is not very smooth either...if you've gotten used to the VQ you could be in for quite a shock.

I've got a flat four now and I like it for what it does... I know its not the smoothest engine out there but i love the sound and ive only driven a maxima like 3 times but the engine is as smooth as a BMW inline 6 so it pulls like a steam boat and what a great sound...

My friend has a Subaru Legacy 2.5 Sedan and I beat him all the time,it pretty quick off the line but it's not good high end.
But it is very fun in the snow, and can turn alot better than my 4 gen.....
