Is my clutch slipping?

This is my first automatic transmission, so I am not sure if it's slipping or just sloppy.

When I am pushing it hard (warm or cold) the engine pulls solid up to the point where the ECU tells the tranny to shift, and then for a moment acceleration drops to nothing, the engine stays rev'ing where it was, then it drops down and pulls like normal until it is time to shift again.

I've got a 2k GXE. Checked the transmission fluid the other day with the car warm/hot and the fluid level was a well over the normal range on the dip stick. The color was a sort of medium grey. The car has 85k miles on it.

Is this normal? It feels like I am losing power for that second or so where the engine is revved way up there, but the car isn't accelerating.

Thanks,
Jacob

I think the problem is you have a clutch in an automatic tranny. remove the clutch and see what happens.

J/K...Tranny might be slipping, have it checked.

The fluid should be pink, might be time for a change

To test slippage try this. Find a nice long hilly section of road to drive up. Rolling from the bottom, gradual step into it and listen for the shift. If it revs long, before the shift have it checked out. The more ppl or weight in the car will make it more obvious if there is slippage.

Smell the tranny fluid... If it really smells like burnt electronics then your tranny id probably slipping... Other than that does it ever feel like it should be pulling harder that you are revving???

it doesn't really smell like burnt electronics, but it doesn't smell like clean oil either.

a couple questions:

1. where can i find a detailed how-to on the valve body modification?
2. will doing the valve body modification reduce slipping, or is that another problem? where can i find a detailed discussion of what is actually causing the slipping?
3. i already purchased 6 quarts of tranny fluid and a new filter. when i change these out, should i go ahead and change the solenoids too?
4. where can i find the solenoids? autozone doesn't have them.

i bought the car 12 days ago at carmax. i have a 30 day mechanical warranty, but i'm not real sure i am going to be able to convince them...

i'm going to read the the TSB info and see whta is there.

thanks for any info.

So I found TSB's NTB00039A and NTB00039D. Is there a mileage limit on these bulletins? My y2k GXE has 85k miles on it. If they say my slipping is due to wear instead of manufacturer's defect, would that be reasonable?

I am actually taking the car to carmax, so I'm not sure how the Nissan TSB's fit into that.

Our power train warranty is 5yr/60K mi, whichever comes first. If the your car does need the TSB I think only Nissan can honor that. If the 30 day warranty allows you to return the car to carmax do so.

I personally don't think nissan will honor the TSB at this point. It is usually hard to get them to fix conditions a person know exists with their car.

At 85K mi you are well beyond the warranty. You can try to argue (real nice and calm) that the previous owner did not get the TSB addressed but you may need a lawyer to be heard. It could get sticky.

good luck
