SAFC-II install on a 2002 Max

First, Speacial thanks to Dixit (BigDogJonx) for looking through the 2k2 FSM and giving me all the pinouts I needed. And providing me with the AFC-II wire coding. I can't read the Japanese manuals. Thanks also goes to Scott for providing me with the ECU diagram he rounded up for his AFC-II install.

Today I installed the SAFC-II on my 2002 Maxima. So far it just looks like a neat gadget to have in the car (it kicks ***!)but I hope it will be a useful tuning tool for MAF and injector upgrades. I have taken pictures of the install step by step and will post them sometime late Sunday. Maybe even a few low grade videos of the thing in action. But I still need to attach the knock sensor wire and the primary O2. I plan to do my initial tuning from the readings I get from my A/F gauge. After I learn every nook and cranny of this thing I'll take the car to the dyno and tune.

I think mine will be for sale soon considering my 1 car seems to be the only one on this planet with the wires all different from all the FSM's I've gotten my hands on

Black is pink for me, red/green is orange, etc... sigh

Anyone wanna trade ECU's? lol....

No No, this doc is clearly only for 2k2-2k3, their wire colors are different as well as pin locations.

Use the standard Pin setup that Kev has up for the SAFCI, its the same setup, only extra pin you need is the knock sensor which is basically a White or Clear wire off Pin93 of the ECM.

SAFCII Wire Codes
Red - power
Green - rpm signal
Gray - Throttle signal (TPS)
Brown - Ground
Black - Ground
Yellow - A/F Output (this goes towards the ECU)
White - A/F Input (goes away from ECU)
Blue - can be used as O2 sensor voltage meter. Hook up to one of the primary O2 leads.
Pink Not used (Used on Karman vehicles)
Orange Not used (Used on Karman vehicles)
Purple - Knock

I put the 3" PVC MAF back on yesterday. It's taking some weird tuning curves but appears to be finally settling correctly.

This thing is LOUD! The butt dyno seems to approve but I will make no guesses as to what if any hp increase. The Humblemaker will reveal all.

Re: SAFC-II install on a 2002 Max

What exactly did you do? What is an AFC-II? What does it do? Sorry, I know nothing about this stuff.

An SAFC and SAFCII are basically Airflow signal manipulators. It allows you to fine tune the air/fuel curve on your car better when you are using forced induction. Most of todays car computers can handle the a/f curve fairly well without forced induction, but once you introduce that, it doesnt hold the curve to maximum HP output. This is where the SAFC comes in play.

Now you can use it against Non-aspirated cars, but the gains are almost nill unless your curve is off like bigtime. If thats the case then you have other problems on the car.
