how many miles are left when our gas light comes on?

I think its about 3 miles

 

Nah, it's way more than that. I've left work with the gas light just starting to come on, and made it all the way home. 20 miles in traffic.

 

yeah now that I think about it, 3 miles would be pretty pointless...it was discussed before but I can't remember

 

On my car the gas light starts coming on with at least 3 gallons left which is at least another 50 miles.

 

according to Kaleb, it's SUPPOSED to come on with 2 gallons left in the tank.

mine comes on just below 1/4 tank and will go on and off for the next 75 miles.

In my old GXE, the gas light came on when I first got the car before I had a chance to fill the tank. I drove it probably another 10 miles before filling up. I never let it get low enough to come on again for a few years.. when it did, the tank had been on E for a while and I just kept driving it see when the light would come on. when it finally did, I was sitting at a stoplight.. by the time I got through the intersection, the engine was sputtering and died about 2 blocks later.
fortunately I was only a couple blocks from home so I walked home and grabbed the gas can..
but you get the point.. every car is different. it's SUPPOSED to come on with 2 gal left in the tank.

 

You can't ask how many miles because everyone gets diff gas mileage. Also I bet everyone's tank level sensor is calibrated slightly different.

If it goes on, assume you have about 3 gallons left. So if you get 20 mpg, you got about 60 miles until you are dead on the road.

 

BAM thats what I meant!!!! 3 gallons...I knew it was a 3 in there somewhere!

Yeah it just kinda fades in and out at first. Keep driving on it and it'll stay on completely. Keep driving on that then you're outta gas

 

My car seems to be posessed with the gas light.. When the car was new it would come on with around 3 gallons left. Now, it varies from 3 to 2 to 1.5 gallons left. One easy way to tell is when you fill up and top off remember that the tank holds 18.1 gallons.

 

are you suuuuure? 18.1? i thought it was 14?

 

Tell me about it. The owner's manual says 18 and change but i've had it dead on E and only got 14.5 gallons in it.
