What are the symptoms of a bad knock sensor?

I suspect the KS is bad. I pulled the code a few weeks ago. CEL came on for EVAP vent control valve.
I do not think that the EVAP code would throw the KS code.

Here are the symptoms:

- Only getting like 310 miles to a tank
- Going up hill, my car seems to be real sluggish unless I punch it, when I do punch it the car smells like it is running really rich.
- Low end seems to be sluggish.

I ordered a new one and will be taking out the old but I wanted to see if these symptoms point to a bad KS.

Second question, removing the KS is a b!tch. Those of you who have changed it, what is the best way to do it. I read the write up on Skippy Net but I did not have a 12mm flex socket at the time.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

First guy, use a 1/4" rachet set with a swivel to get to it.

Second, I would think that your O2 sensors may be failing. But, I would replace all at once since they will eventually go bad as well. I replaced my KS, and both front O2 sensors at the same time. I was just throwing a Knock sensor CEL and one time threw the front bank O2 sensor, but that code was cleared out and never came back. After the replacement, I went from 305 miles to the tank to about 410 to the tank. I called that an investment well spent....

Thanks...... I threw the O2 sensor code a few months back but it never reappeared.

Sounds like a plan...
