2k2 6 speed loose shift **** piece?

For those of you that have 2k2 6 speeds, does the plastic center piece on your shift **** move around and creak? Mine is fairly loose and I can move it about 2 milimeters front to back. I am wondering if this is a common thing or if really needs to be fixed.

Andy, you're talking about the reverse lockout ring right? If so, mine does not move around and creak. It moves vertically, but I can't wiggle it side to side.

No, I'm talking about the silver piece of plastic that has the gears written on it that runs down the middle of the shift ****.

Oh ok, but the answer is still no--it doesn't move around at all.

Funny - I just noticed that this week. And now I can't stop messing with it. It's gonna come off soon - no question.

It's like a cheap piece of tin (YA! THIS IS TITANIUM!)

That piece has been loose since day one on my 2K3. And like someone else said, I constantly move it around with my finger. It will probably pop off someday. Its made out of plastic right ?

That plastic piece is held to the shift **** by a screw. Do this, take your shift **** off your car. Look inside the **** and you'll see a screw at the very bottom. Tighten the screw to tighten plastic piece to the shift ****. I did this on mine and it worked great.

Stupid question.....how do you take the shift **** off? Does it just unscrew?

I feel like a newbie again with this 2K2...

Yeh, you have to unscrew it. Be prepared though--some people have had a hard time doing it by hand. May need to wrap a wrench in a towel and do it like that.

I actually got it from the group deal forum a few months back. The one that I got was the Momo Cobra Aluminum/Black leather to go with my black interior. Here is a link that has a picture of the ****. I don't have a picture of it in my car.

MOMO Cobra Aluminum/ Black Leather

I had to do a little modification to the reverse lockout ring but it looks great.

Yeah just unscrew the shift **** off however if you're taking the **** of for the first time, it's going to be a little tight. Just grip it with a towel or something a screw if off as hard as you can counter clockwise. It will come off. I thought that I would never get mine off the first time I tried.

Give me a call if you need to take it off. I guess I'm so strong that I was able to get it on the first try bear handed without breaking a sweat

I had the same **** on my integra...does it fit well on the maxima? I'm worried about it being too tall on the stalk, since the lock-out ring mechanism creates a rather shot **** for the 2k2.
What do you mean by "a little modification"??

I think that would definitely look too tall.

Ditto... drove off the lot and the shiny tin piece was already worn and wiggling around. No worries as I had a **** waiting to be put in.

I had to trim the top of the ring so that I could fit the **** on. If I didn't trim it, there would have been no way for the reverse lockout ring to be lifted up to put the car in reverse.

And I thought my 2k3 was the only one that had a removable thingamajig on the ****. These OE ***** really suck . I wanted to swap it out, but I couldn't find any shops that carried Momo's (apparently, all the Honda-ricers want cheapo *****). But I found one that carried Razo *****, and they had one that looked similar to the Momo Cobra, made just as well, and fit better. But if you choose to go Razo, just make sure to get the short **** b/c they're Japanese made w/Japanese packaging and they've got several variations (weights and lengths) for the same design. With the short ones, you don't have to do any mods like to Momo. Just screw it on, and you're good to go! And they're only around $42.00 .

Sweet! That worked perfectly. A little bit of superglue and tightening the screw made all the difference in the world. I really like the look of this **** and I am glad I don't have to put my Momo on. Thanks man!

Hey Yamatosoul,

Are you referring to the Razo RA95, RA96 series of shift *****?

Thanks

I couldn't pull up your catalog, but mine is the RA98 GT Advance (Short, 170g). I tried the (Long, 340g) first, but, again, that damned ring got in the way. So, I took it back, and tried the short one, and "voila", perfection! BTW, they're both $42, so I really wanted the heavier one, but there was no way it was going to fit. And as to the guy that wanted to know if he can get it online, yes, I've seen it online. But I'm sorry I can't recall where. I'd suggest using a search engine. I hope this helps.

Is one of these the shifter you are referring to?

I actually like the textured leather look of the 340G model. I wonder if the 170G comes that way too.

How much of a difference does the two different weights have anyway?

Allow me to correct myself. Now that I've looked at the catalog, I realize mine is the RA97, not the RA98 (different p/n's for the Short and Long), but I don't see any difference between those and the RA95/96's. They may just be slight part number differences for different markets because mine came in all Japanese packaging with Japanese wording. I didn't try any of their other ***** out, but because they're all universal, they all do fit. The only thing is that the good ol' "ring" will get in the way of the longer ones. Which is too bad b/c the extra weight of the 340 gram **** sort of assists you with the notchiness of the 2k2-2k3 shifter. I don't have the info. on the place I bought my **** at right now, but let me look, and I'll get back to you guys.

I checked out your link, but the photos didn't come out for some reason. To see the RA97, check out RC03MAX's Razo catalog link on this thread. That's the complete Razo line, so you can see everything they've got. And as for the difference between 340g and 170g, it's quite a bit. I was actually pretty surprised at the difference in feel. But it's a "no go" for those of us with the "RING" .

From the Nopi.com link (assuming their listing is correct), I see that the 170G & 340G models come in both long & short. So maybe we are in luck !?!?!?!

And I'm sure there may be other places out there with better prices, just search by model number (example: RAZO RA97 or RA98 etc.)

If that's true, you guys are luckier than I was. If Razo makes the GT Advance in a short, 340 gram version, go for that one. Momo's are nice with the leather grip and all, but they can be a pain to install, and they cost more than twice what the Razo's cost. And I'm really happy with my Razo. I installed it right after I finished going all out ($$$) on my stereo system, and I think I may be enjoying this $42 mod just as much (well, maybe that's an exaggeration , but it is a vast improvement over the stock ****).

YAMATOSOUL, I was thinking of upgrading my shift **** on my 2K3. Do you think that the RAZO Competitioon Series will fit??? From what Nopi states is that most of the competition series are either: 2 heights or 3 heights adjustable.

Okay. I finally have this RA95/96 & RA97/98 deal figured out. What RC03MAX found on Nopi.com was correct. The RA95/96's are the short GT Advance ***** and the RA97/98's are the long ones. And each size comes in either the 170gm or the 340gm weights. I only had the package from the longer one that I initially bought, and just figured that since that was the RA98, mine must be the RA97. Sorry for the confusion, guys . As for the Competition Series, hmmm , I can't say for sure, but I did find a internet site that carries a full line of Razo ***** and they seem to have good customer support, so you might try checking with them: http://www.imotorgear.com
