where to find a 5spd tranny?? read about my situation

well... after 10k miles w/ diffy bearings gone bad, the tranny is near death. I went to a local wrecking yard... they had a 5spd tranny with 92k miles on it + 6 month warranty. They wanted us to pay $850 for it. Is that too high??

Anyways, I was ready to buy it despite the worst attitude they had towards me. They were being such *******s. I told them "fine i'll get it for $850". Then he started *****ing at me for coming in too late (noon) and that they won't have the tranny off the car till monday. I said "ok, ill give u $200 deposit now and i'll pay the rest on monday when i come pickup tranny". Then the dude demanded i pay full right there. I'm no sucker, either way their bad attitude got to me and i got ****ed off. They told me to leave if i didn't pay full right there. I told them to **** off and left. Despite that, some other guy came runnin to me and told me to call back on monday. I don't think I want to deal with them.

What do you guys think? Should I go for it? I was pretty mad the first time because I called them and they said it had "low mileage" and was already off the car. When I got there i found it had close to 100k miles and was still on the car.

I'm really lookin for a tranny w/ some sort of warranty on it. I've heard of people buying it online... phoenix transmissions was the name? I forget. What other options are out there. I know about car-parts. Has anyone bought any transmissions from those people on ebay or any shop that ships trannies. Thanks for any advice/tips.

my 5spd blew out on me 3 times
hence the reason I bought auto.

$850 for the installation and trans or just 850 for trans?
If its $850 for the trans alone u better look around.

the tranny will be the most expensive thing on the list. As for the labor work, i've found a local expert ORG member to help me out on that.

I am scared ****less that i'm gonna pick up a tranny that will have the differential bearings go out on me again... hense the need for warranty. I mean, i don't even drive the car hard! The tranny I had lasted up till 140k miles before they went bad... and that's when I bought the car lol. Maybe my newbie driving killed it. I don't what it is but now i just need a replacement tranny.

That price is way too high. You should be able to find one in the 300-600 dollar range. Based on your comments, that junkyard is messing with you, I wouldn't want to do business with them at all.
