Driving a manual isnt all that hard, I myself am rusty as hell due to the fact I also drive an auto. That is beside the point. As long as you have a warranty, just use it to what its worth. Be it you need a new tranny they will cover it. There are some lemons out there so obviously its a possibility, I dont know why your second tranny would be going out this time around. People are starting to run nitrous on the 02 auto's now and w/o problem, not yet anyway

If for some reason you have to take the car to the dealer to have the same job done under warranty a certain amount of times in a given time period there is the lemon law you can fall back on, the dealer will have no choice but to give you a new car to replace the lemon. The odds of the tranny goin bad for no reason is slim, its possible something wasnt done 100% correctly with the install, there is also the possiblitly that your driving style might be not suited toward the tranny (Im not saying you are but manual shifting and auto all the time for example) Trading for the 99 isnt goin to slove the problem because the power not being there is gonna be a significant differance and im sure your not goin to like that. Its your choice man goodluck.

I can say without a doubt my 99SE-L was built better than my 2k2. The 2k2 rides like crap which be OK if it outhandled the 99 but it does not. Keep in mind the 2k2 has an addco rear sway bar and a FSTB whereas the 99 only had the FSTB. Another issue is the horrible wind noise with the 2k2. I've had it to the dealer 3 times. Dealers response(even with TSB in hand), what wind noise. The 2k2(auto) is noticeablely quicker than the 99(5spd) but lacks in refinement. Kind of funny everyone with a 3rd gen says it has better build quality than a 4th gen. The same can be said 5th to 4th gen. I've had both long enough to know this firsthand. Let the flames begin...

Maybe its just me but I'd only consider the 99 Max as a beater car, saving the wear and tear on my 2K2.

I can swap out my intake in 5 minutes with 1 10mm socket w/extention and 1 screw driver. You don't need to remove the muffler and even if you did there's only 2 bolts that hold it to the B-pipe the rest is rubber hangers 5-10 minutes max. With the Y it would be easier with a lift but you can still do this at home in 1/2hr to an hour. $130 to do that, $hit them's IT rates.
For a guy with nothing for an occupation you sure are willing to shell out the money. If I were closer I'd do it for beer.

I'd keep the 2K2. Just keep driving it aroundand before you know it, you'll be shifting and not even know it.

P.S. Don't do the trade.

try a 2000 or 2001

My vote is to go with a 2000 or 2001. I posted yesterday with the header "2000 GXE BETTER than a 2003 SE". IMHO Nissan screwed with a good thing in '02. Instead of just upping the HP and torque with the 3.5, they screwed with the tranny, clutch, and handling all for the worse. I bought a 2000 GXE with 25k miles for $11,999 last month after driving a '03 SE Titanium Edition 6 speed for six months. I have never looked back. Not a common price but the dealer in DC was anxious to get rid of the manual. Rememebr, only 3% of the population knows how to drive these bad boys. Patience, Autotrder.com, and the willingness to go a long distance to pick up a car can pay off big time - especially today when dealers are hungrier than ever.
