There should be some requirement that Nissan etch the VIN number on these things. Theft is nearly impossible to completely stop but if there was proof that these were indeed stolen then there might be some consequences.

I'm not on the bad guys side bit he could have been into an accident or something but then the whole lite would be cracked. I still think it's stolen though.

to give this guy the benefit of the doubt....I can only see this as a theft attempt

I see this as, they stole his other light, attempted this one, something or someone scared him off and he bounced with 1 light and left with a broken one which he is in turn selling so he can claim 2 light thefts with insurance co...

yeah its illegal, yeah its immoral, but if you were in his position, wouldn't u do it too???

and NO this aint me....haha...I don't live in TN and both my lights are perfect!

this is the most post I've read lately... you really think they engineered it to make it easy to steal so they could sell more???

to answer your question, you can report it to ebay but all he has to do is say "it's mine and I'm selling it" and there's nothing they can do... after all, can anyone prove it was stolen? I agree it probably was but there is no proof.

I think etchin the vin# would be a great idea. It's like etchin the glass with the vin#. You can take the lights out without breakin any tabs. The only tab that you can tell is broken sometime is that lil tab closer to the fender.

thats a good idea...vin etching...my lights cant be taken without breaking tabs...I have special locking bolts on my headlight assemblies...looks like the McGard wheel locks....they came with my car from the dealer...The dealer installed them because of the rampant HID theft....

I'm using some bolts I got from TimW. 2 shock sensors, backup battery/siren for my setup. Hope that'll deter them

The bolts on my HIDs (from Courtesy Nissan... official Nissan parts) are 'breakaways' that you screw down and break the top off... then if you need to get your fixtures off, you have to drill out the screws. Probably what you have... make sure you break the tops off.

I'm 99% certain that these are stolen. If they were not, it would have been in the seller's best interest to put a disclaimer as to why the tab is cracked. I'm sure he's well aware of all the HID thefts off the Maxima, so I don't see why he wouldn't put a disclaimer, at least, to make it look legit. Of course he can put up a BS reason, but it's better than what he has now.

On the other hand, the seller is in TN, and we haven't heard of any TN members (don't know how many we have) complain about HID theft over there (mostly NYC, NJ at this point).

Yes, they are brass... the top looks like a small hex nut... the 'key' being a small hex socket... you use to tighten it down and break them off (it states in the installation!).

Ahhh... they are using the air bag anti-theft bolt on your HIDs?

That is what that is used for, bro!

Look it up online... that is an accessory... the air bag anti-theft bolt... star pattern like a wheel lock.

They are supposed to use the brass break-off locks on HIDs.

only they have the key? That's crap... what if *you* want to take them out? I've had mine out 3 times so far trying different bulbs in the clearance lights.

Kinda makes you wonder, eh? Besides... that is the point of having mine... if they break open my hood... I've screwed them from using the fixtures, they need to break the tabs to get the bulb/ballast.

Either way, your lights can get jacked...They just won't get away with a relatively clean housing. As we all know, they mostly care about the bulb and the ballast, so if your lights are secured, they're more likely to use a crowbar and pry them out. This will give you more body damage, and yet your lights will still get stolen.

Either way, what we need is a visible deterrent so that they don't try to steal them in the first place. With the security bolts, they'll start trying to take your lights out, notice that it doesnt' come out as easily, and will take a crowbar to it.

I don't know...Either way you look it, we lose, they win (for now at least...)!

thats word but if you think about it, if they want em, they'll ALWAYS get em...u can alarm ur car, starter kill, but still if they want it, they can flatbed it out.....

i'm not worried..HID theft has seemed to calm down here in NYC and either way, my car is usually garaged or watched

Exactly! If they want these ****s bad enough, they'll take em any which way. That's the bottom line with anything. I'm sure the bolts may deter a few of these punks who are rookies at it, and will move on to a different car if these don't just pop right out like they're used to (i.e. no bolts at all), but the majority of these thieves would probably pry them out with force. So now you'd be looking at the cost of HIDs and the body damage incurred by them prying it out.

P.S. Thankfully, Boston hasn't seen this phenomenon as far as I can tell. NYC is major...Everytime I come there (twice a month on weekends), I see Maxis with missing eyes. Hurts to see that. But you better believe I take a beater when I come!

Now I have my doubts about the possibility that these are stolen.

If you want to write nasty e-mails... this guy says that the lights don't even have the mounting brackets or balasts anymore...
