Have never been so mad...what does it take to get an exhaust system

[rant]
So yeah, 3 weeks ago I ordered an OBX Catback from Ketron Sales. I finally had to take the plunge because I broke my muffler right off the stock b-pipe. Can you say loud? Anyways, they said it it would be a week before they got it in because it was back-ordered. Fine I say, I can deal with that.

Week 3 comes by with no sign of an exhaust. I call this past monday and speak to the lady I ordered it with and she said that they are recieving an OBX shipment Thursday and my exhaust is supposed to be in that. She said to call back thursday to confirm that it arrives. I call thursday a few times and it's busy every time. So today I finally get through, talk to some guy. He said that his info shows that THERE HASN'T BEEN AN OBX EXHAUST FOR THE MAXIMA AVAILABLE IN OVER A YEAR AND A HALF. I am like WTF are you talking about I know people who have ordered them and recieved them within the last 2 months, I've even seen them with my own eyes, etc. He says well thats what I'm showing here.

So I ask him, why the hell wasn't I informed of this when I ordered my exhaust 3 damn weeks ago. He says "I don't know." So I ask him to make this very clear to me, and to confirm that he's telling me that there is NO OBX catback exhaust available in the united states for the 95-99 Nissan Maxima. He say's that's correct. So I ask him the status of my order and he says "well I'm looking at it right now, you haven't been charged for it but no OBX exhaust is coming for you because it's not available to me if it exists." I say fine, then in essence my order doesn't exist because I'm not getting charged and I'm not getting my parts. He says that's correct and he'll put my order in the shredder right now to ensure that I don't get charged for it.

So yeah, I'm fairly ****ed now that I've been driving around for 3 weeks for an exhaust that according to Ketron Sales, doesn't exist.
[/rant]

I called up Megan Racing immediately afterwards and ordered their catback exhaust. Eric said it is in stock and will ship tonight, should be to me by Thursday or Friday of next week.

Damn dosnt exist What about Mecca and many others on this forum that have it? What a bunch of crap. Well at least they did not charge you for it. And you didnt get ripped like with the ECU. So you ordered the Megan huh. How much was it? I guess you will be the first one to try it out and tell the maxima community about it...

Damn pretty good price. The catback looked good quailty too me. Stainless steel, 2.5" diameter piping, mandrel bent, and a nice polished finish. It should not be too loud either, due to the resonated B-pipe and silencer...

This is why it's best to have a local shop build a custom catback for you. In the end it usually costs less and you get exactly what you want.

I'm starting to feel the same way. Hopefully I will be vindicated and happy when the Megan goes on my car. knock-on-wood. If not off comes the Megan and on goes a budget or warpspeed b-pipe and a muffler that is yet TBA.

If that doesn't work just go with an electric cutout after the cat .

The greddy is loud and about $250 more than the exhaust I bought. This one might be loud too. If it's too loud I'll get rid of it.

i had my heart set on getting an OBX before summer. was that the only place you could get the setup?? let us know how megan is, i dont like the tip(due to the silencer) but can that just be removed?

i would love a greddy but i just cant justify spending 500+ for an exhaust system, when a custom one, or an obx could be had for 300. i am sure nealoc feels the same way.

My greddy rotted right off my car , and i paid $600 . But i will tell you one thing that greddy was the biggest power gain ive felt yet out of all the bolt ons. I have cattman b-pipe and stock muffler on now its as quiet as the car came stock. It must be that huge cattman resonater, its bigger than the muffler on the megan exaust. With the setup now i felt a huge power loss,i think the stock muffler is very restricted, I will be putting on the greddy muffler with cattman b-pipe soon, along with TB i think the bugs are worked out.

What about the Apexi WS catback? Did you ever consider that? I hear its good quality and very quiet. Or was it still expensive at around $400?

The Apexi is still 2.25" and more than I wanted to spend. Especially now that I'm going to probably be building a set of heads. I like the Apexi sound alot, but if I really wanted one I would just drive over to BriGuyMax's house one night and steal it off his car haha.

so does anyone know if you can take the silencer off the megan muffler. i dont like the second hole look, or what ever you call it. can it be removed to look like a normal exhaust without sounding like crap??

kris: you said that you are going to pair your catman b up with a greddy muffler. where can you get a greddy muffler. i love the greddy look and sound, but too much $$$$.

anyone know where a greddy muffler can be bought from?

thanks, don

I think you can order the greddy seperate but it will prob be around $350 ,and it will have to be modified to fit on anything other than the greddy b- pipe. i.e cutting ,welding

So do you think that the piping being 2.25" rather than 2.5" like your Y-pipe would make the catback restrict things? And maybe cause you to get less of a gain from it than a 2.5" catback?

I don't know if it will hurt but I know it won't help. Why settle for something that costs more and may not even give the performance gains of something that costs less.

just a mental note...if you get a custom cat back, make sure you leave the factory resanator in to keep it quiet.

Greddy does not sell their mufflers separate from their catbacks. It says so on their website.
