The dealer can change the setting on your car's computer (not the ECU). I think the headlight delay settings are someting like 2 minutes max, 1 minute (default), then immediate off. There was a post about this; I'll try to find it.

I think its done this way in case you are just getting out for a second to get something, becuase (i think) it is bad to turn on and off and back on HIDs in a short amount of time. What if you left them on AUTO instead of ON, does it make a difference?

Leaving the setting on auto will not make a differance. Also you are correct about flashing the hid's, its not too good for the bulb and will shorten it extrelmly long life. Andy you dont really have much to worry about, those HID's take less wattage to run (35watts) then your 00 does so it wont drain the battery. I dont know if the dealer can change that setting, I havnt heard of this be4 so im still

Leave the lights on off.....I find no use for the Auto setting....seems like a quick way just to turn everything on for me when it gets dark.

I think this is what your looking for: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....eadlight+timer

More Specifically (inside the thread linked above):

Headlamp Illumination delay (time headlights remain on after exiting car when headlight is in the “auto” position)
Mode 1: 45 seconds
Mode 2: No Delay (lights turn off immediately)
Mode 3: 30 Seconds
Mode 4: 1 minute
Mode 5: 1 ½ minutes
Mode 6: 2 minutes
Mode 7: 2 ½ minutes
Mode 8: 3 minutes
