Drive belts 99Max

Any detailed how-tos on changing drive belts? Compared to cleaning throttle body, installing plugs, fuel filter and PCV valve, how time-and effort-intensive a task is it and what tools are needed?

Not too bad - about 1/2 hour to 45 mins. with no complications (as if that's ever happened to me before )

Tip - spring for the OEM belt from Nissan - I bought an aftermarket one from a parts store and it was definitely too small, even though their database had it as being the correct belt.

You'll need to completely loosen the adjusting nut at the top of the tensioner pulley first (deep socket with a long extension is good to have here - I think the size is 12mm, but someone correct me if I'm off)

Note: Remove the plastic splash-guard on the right underside of the engine compartment to make this job easier, also.

At this point, you *should* be able to slide the belt off the tensioner pulley & remove it from the car.

Replacement is reverse of removal.

You may need to loosen the alternator or A/C compressor mounting bolts so you can pivot either component on one bolt (to be able to make slack in the belt) to get the new belt back on. This is a worst-case scenario, but not a big deal.

(If you end up doing this, seat the belt into it's correct location, then be sure to re-bolt the A/C compressor or alternator back into place)

Then, re-tension the adjustment bolt atop the tensioner pulley once the new belt is in place - don't overtighten, as you can damage pulley bearings if the belt is too tight.

Voila, you're done!
