I have just purchased a set of 97-99 5 spoke wheels. I was just lookin at Craigs page and thats exactly the look that I want. My two questions are what size tire do I need for these wheels and Craig what lowering springs are you using I want that exact height that you have not too low but no wheel gap.

You need 215/55/16s, and a set of Eibachs will you give you the height you want.

 

What does the first number on the tire size mean. Im asking because someone I know is selling his 205/55/16s

 

Width of the tire. 215 is the recommended tire size for that wheel. 205 would probably fit fine, but I wouldn't put those on my car.

 

Yes 215/55 is recommended. I have the 99 SE-L rims and I have tokico and eibachs. Craig has Eibach springs and kyb gr-2's shocks.

 

Ok guys thanks. I'll go with the 215/55. Second question do I have to change my shocks when I get the Eibachs if not what will happen? Im clueless with suspension upgrades so thanks guys.

 

like the others have said, I have eibachs with 215/55/16 tires and KYB GR2 struts

you SHOULD change your shocks when you put in lowering springs, the springs will put more load on the shocks and wear out your stock ones pretty quick

the best and most expensive shocks are Koni, next up are Tokico and cheapest are KYB GR2
I got mine from www.eatricezone.com but you can get them a little cheaper than that and have been happy with them

you should also replace dust boots when you do the springs/struts (check out the FAQ link for how-to instructions to see what's involved)

Well its suggested because since a lower spring will put more stress on the same shock it will wear it out quickly and soon you will need a new set of shocks. Since when installing springs you have to remove the you might as well replace it with new ones. You can get all 4 shocks for like $180.00 shipped from www.foreignautoparts.cc or www.alloemautoparts.com

I will get the tires shocks and springs this week and I'll post some pics of my car next week I gotta wait to take pics since somebody broke into my car so I have 5% tint all around and one clear one so as soon as I get that window tinted I'll post some pics.

yea ive got 16" nissan 240sx rims and previous owner ran 205/55/16 for some reason

need new tirse soon and im gonna switch to 215/55/16

got some friends pushing me to do 225 but im probably gonna ***** out

 

I had 225/55 Pirelli P7000 Supersports and on the passenger side they rubbed on the inside. Now I have Bridgestone Potenza RE950's 215/55 and they don't rub at all and are excellent tires.

 

I think that anything larger than 215 will rub...I had 235s on my 17s and the insides wore..but on my 4th gen...they fit perfect and no rubbing...another reason 3rd gens suck!... j/k of course (I still have mine)

 

I have 17x8 w/ 235-45 w/ no rubbing. I also have 16x8 w/ 225-50 w/ no rubbing Both for sale.

 

How about those trim pieces????

 

I tried to get them off but I couldn't see how to do it w/o mangling them. If you have some ideas let me know. I'm sorta stumped.

I think it's 205 or 215/65/15s. I can't remember for sure about the width.

It's REALLY suggested becasue you have to remove the strut from the car to install the springs. So you would have to do the same labor twice. Also, since you are removing one suspension mount point when you remove each strut you need to get the realigned each time.

Also, 215/55R16 are the stock size, but you can run a 225/50R16 and have a little more meat on the road, about the same diameter so your speedo error isn't affected much and not lose much ride quality.
