Your HIDs on Ebay for $700

I am really gettin' ****ed that people are selling HIDs on Ebay. Some dude wrote that he got them from a salvage yard, another guy said he bought them for his eclipse but now wants to put aftermarket HIDs in instead. Why doesn't some law enforcement agency buy them and then arrest the f*ckers for selling stolen goods?

thats aight....Igor just won a pair off ebay, sent me the link.....very easily I saw immediately that they were stolen...no tabs, 1 housing had 2 missing dust covers....and to make matters worse, the dude had feedback showing his mis-doings, selling stolen **** in the past....

Hey Igor, if you read this, that guy is from Queens...tell him u wanna send him a check or M/O and get his address....

I'll pay him a visit for us fellow .org members who are tired of HID theft and thats my word!

Seriously... if you etch in your VIN number on the back of the HIDs and on the bottom corner of the front of the HIDs, then the housings are shot... and can be traced, and are very obviously stolen if they are all scratched up (to cover the VIN)...

then, and only then, we can claim "stolen".

I think most people who buy HIDs that:

a) are on Ebay

and

b) are missing the housing, tabs and/or dust covers

already know that they most likely are getting stolen HIDs, so I doubt they would care if the back of the housing was scratched up to cover up a VIN etching. They'd still buy them.

Etching Kits

What do you guys think about a kit like one of these to etch the VIN# on the HIDS?

http://www.vinetcher.com

Anyone ever use something like this? I know it works on glass, I wonder if it would work on the HID covers?

Etching the VIN seems like a good idea, but will not prevent the theft. I asked the dealer if they install bolts and was told that they do. However, the bolts will only make the HIDs harder to steal but they are not theft-proof, and to a determined thief, he will damage your car even more just to get to the HIDs.

I will not buy anything HIDs from E-Bay. Doing so will only encourage more thefts because those bastards know there is a market for the unfortunate victims to buy back their stolen goods.

I heard that many TL HIDs have also been stolen because they fit easily on the Accords. Until HIDs are massed produced to drive down cost, there is always these bastards out there trying to make money.

WTF-I looked at that VIN etching website but I don't see how that would decrease the chance of theft. Most cars are stolen for parts or joy rides. How would etching the VIN # into the glass decrease the chance of theft?

It makes it hard to sell parts that have a vin # on them. For example, if you went to a glass shop and the guy offered you a piece of glass with someone elses vin # on it, don't you think it would be strange...would you buy it????? I sure as heck wouldn't.........

It wouldn't decrease the chance of theft, per se, but it sure would make it hard(er) to sell the da*n part...
