my 04 Max honks like a duck!

This is my first Nissan, and I love it. The first time I hit my horn I thought something must be wrong. It's loud but it honks like a duck! Do all Maxs quak? Many say that Nissan Maximas are a true Man's car. All the bells and good power. What is up with the horn? It is not manly at all. What is the name or the person at Nissan who designed the horn system. Is it some kind of a joke. I am a teacher and every day students ask me to "quak my car horn." When I do they laugh and laugh. I don't feel like a real man when I honk. Do others have this manly problem?

Don't waste money on the JDM Z horns, you don't drive a Z, why bother.

04 Maximas are equipped with twin trumpet horns (low and high frequency), they should sound the same as the 2002+ Altima horns.

Take it back to the dealer and tell them that you want to sound the horn on another 04 Maxima or 2002+ Altima ... if it sounds different, you either have a faulty horn, or a connection might have come loose.

I replaced the disc horns in my 4th gen with the same horns from the 2002+ Altima, sounds good

Wait a minute you just said not to get the Z horns because he doesn't drive a Z but then you said that you got the 2002+ Altima Horns in your 4th gen. You don't drive an Altima. Why bother?

The JDM horns are overpriced and says Z on it. Two things that should not go with a Maxima.

The 2002+ Altima horns are standard AM-80 type horns used my many OEMs. Most trumpet horn replacements are AM-80 type. (And it doesn't say Z on it )

I could have gone to the local auto parts store but I just opted to pull the horns from a 2002+ Altima. No reason to do so, just happened to be what I did.

I just ordered a set of Hella supertones. I hope they work. Anything is better than a duck. Well - maybe not a turkey call or something.

Just get a semi-truck horn. Next time some1 cuts you off, just honk and the hair on the back of his neck will be standing on end.

It's not like you'll see the Z logo anyways? And $45 dollars isn't overpriced.

Does anyone have a write up for the install on a 5th gen? Or is it plug and play?

You can do a plug and play, but some guys have blown fuses when they honked the horn for more than a second or two. Using the provided relay will solve the problem. There are instructions included with the horns. Pretty simple...I did it and I've got very little experience with elelctrical systems.

I believe the instuctions are posted on the susquehana website, also.

Dude, you got issues. A Maxima doesn't exactly say "man" all over it, it says old dude. In my office the people who have Maximas are all over 40. If you need your vehicle to assert yourself, you should have gotten a full-sized truck or SUV.

The forum is a special demographic, as the typical Maxima buyer is not 18 years-old and a single male. I thought I saw a figure that the majority of Max drivers could be female and up there in age. I hope you get things worked out, or your post was just a joke.

Yeah, $45 for horns is way too much. You should be able to do Fiamm for less than that, but how often does one use it anyway? Here in PA a person can space an entire cycle of the light and people often don't even honk.
