Tried to install a purolator tranny gasket.
Purolater gaskets suck royal *ss.
They're crammed in the box, so they look like *hit when you pull them out. Hence they're next to impossible to put on. it kept bunching up as I put the bolts back on. Anyway, now I have a partially installed, torn tranny gasket. Going to the dealer in the morning to pickup a gasket.
The one I pulled off looked straight, and looks like hard rubber, as opposed to that foam type cra* purolator makes. Hopefully the one I pulled off was a nissan OEM gasket.
Learned my lesson. Get good straight gaskets from the dealer. WTF are they thinking cramming it in there. I only bought the $20 kit because it included a tranny filter, which I found I shouldn't install anyway. damn. Dealer gasket is $20 alone.
On a GOOD NOTE
, on my tranny RE4F04A, i found that if I would have removed the filter, I would of had a nut laying somewhere inside the tranny. I probably wouldn't have noticed it at first, but maybe down the line that nut would have moved and caused some serious wreckage in the tranny. Purolator put a note in the box warning me of that (for trannies RL4F03A/V and mine).
Ok enough ranting. Now my car is outta commission till the morning.

I had same prob w/gasket. I put it under the case of fluid I bought to flatten it a bit, about an hour, while I was cleaning the pan and magnets.
Then took a SMALL amount of black RTV and put a couple of dots around the pan to hold the gasket on while I got the screws started. No problems.

Now you tell me, I just bought one an hour ago. Guess I will try and shape it first. I thought the same thing when I looked at this little box that supposedly had a trans pan gasket in it.
Oh well.
Oh well.
Hehe, same idea I had, except it was getting dark and I still had a tranny flush ahead of me. Another case of "haste makes waste." Plus I'm hesitant to use RTV for fear of some of it going into the tranny. Though a small dab to just hold the gasket prolly wouldn't do anything, now would it? I went ahead and bought a dealer gasket today. $20. The gasket came wedged between a 1.5 foot by 1.5 cardboard. nice straight...no problems with it.
Can anyone confirm that the filters for the two trannies with model #: RL4f03a/v and re4f04a (it's on your firewall where the vin plate is), can't be changed without removing the valve body? Any bad stories out there trying to change the filter? Something about a nut on the interior of the tranny coming loose and not being able to re-screw one of the 10mm bolts that holds the filter. Anyone? I'm just confused because most of the how-to stuff never mentions anything about that.
