big BOSE problem ('99 GLE) *please help*

ive come here seeking help with my bose system. the problem is a little complicated and ive tried to describe it as best as i could. its a little lengthy but please read on.

one day out of the blue my bose sound stopped working. the head unit is getting power and all the fuses are good. the radio doesnt receive any signal, only a low hiss comes out and autoseek (when pressed) scans continuously, almost like the antenna has been unplugged. the tape deck doesnt accept cassettes, just reads the tape then flipps it over to the other side and spits it right out. cd player plays all right but the music that comes out is incoherent. very faint and laced with static, especially on the bass notes.

my first thought was that i blew my speakers as i play my music loud. but the problem is i had my speakers faded to the back so that sound is mostly coming out of the rear. if anything i would have blown out my rear deck. also, when adjusting the bass/treble and fade/balance levels im still getting the beep, lound and clear. one thing ive noticed though is that the fade/balance function doesnt operate anymore, the static and hissing is coming out of all speakers constantly no matter how you set it.

ive removed the unit and checked the connections on the back and everything is as it should be. although, there are two recepticles with no cables plugged into them.

is it a bad head unit? burnt aplifiers? blown speakers? please help.

alex

it doesn't sound like the speakers are blown, I'm betting it is a hu problem, you probably have to replace the hu

i said "on a guess", but it really does sound like the HU. I just didn't want to misinform you.

that was my guess from the beginning but i have to be sure before i spend $200+ on repair, as im not financially ready to replace the entire audio system. i mean what are the chances of everything going out at the same time? i wonder if anybody else out there had the same issue.
