820 Miles On EXEDY Stage 1 Clutch

Well today I hit 820 miles on the way to work so coming out of the toll booth I decided to floor it from a roll in 2nd. Man this things hooks up pretty nice, when I shifted into 3rd at redline the wheels just broke loose. And it grabed pretty nice. What I really missed was actully florring the car and hearing my VI open up, its been about a month for me new tranny and other things.

I mean this clutch does not grab too hard but it does grab, so all in all I am very satisfied with the EXEDY stage 1 got it for a great price from PJ at Maxx Tuning so if you are interested hit him up.
Well thanks for listening, I am off to Carlisle!!!

No prob man. I was going to do the flywheel too but at the time I could not justify the cost. I mean I really don't think this clutch is going to rip apart my tranny, which is a good thing but like I said it is not like a stage 3 clutch or anything. Anyways I will try to answer any questions when I get back from Carlisle.

nice write-up i want to feel one of those

be carefulll on the those 3rd gear shifts, what honestly is the point of spinning third? not to be your father, just trying to give you a little warning, because no one "thinks" their clutch is going to rip apart their tranny. There is no warning, its not like you can tell the tranny is going downhill until the gear is just gone all of the sudden. and if you are spinning 3rd, then it has enough grab to break stuff... enjoy it though! good luck at the track!

Yeah those 3rd gear shifts will break the tires loose, I just had to try it. I did try a higher rpm launch at about 4.5K and just feathered the gas in first and it hooked up real nice, since than I have been granny shifting.

HLH- I really hope that does not happen again, I just got a new tranny with the clutch. This is now my 2nd tranny on my 96. I better keep granny shifting.

Any updates?

Since my is just sitting in my living room next to my flywheel, while I decide on an LSD, I was wondering how your clutch is holding up.

not really...i have the same problem m=but not too often and so do a couple of other 3rd gens. It sometimes requires you going into 4th or back to second or double clutching(-shifting?) for it to go in. I wouldnt advise forcing it in.

I had that problem after I got my tranny cyro treated. A lot of time it didn't want to go into 3rd. But I guess it needed to break in because it's butter smooth now

I currently have about 2k already one mine, and still love it. The Pedal has gotten a little softer, so I'm not stalling like I used to, and this thing grabs nice. I second the Kudo's to PJ. That was one fantastic GD!

My third gear acts up occasionally too, sometimes I find a blip of the throttle with light pressure on the stick enough to get it into gear.

...That sounds kinda dirty.

I see some of you have lightened flywheels with aftermarket clutches... I would like to get your input on this as well, I hate mine... Ill explain why... Its hard as **** to launch with... I stalled trying to race a 2000+ mustang GT 5 speed the other day, because the rpm's drop SO fast, all because the ultralight unorthodox flywheel weighs like 7 or 8 pounds to the 20 of the stock one... basically what im saying is, i have to launch at like 2500 or so rpm's off the line on a NORMAL launch to get the car to take off right, while slightly pressing the gas pedal a little harder while letting off the clutch slowlllyyy... (act aftermarket clutch grabs in a very small area), so basically the point is, if i let off the clutch too fast it drops rpm's so fast the car stalls... bad setup in my opinion, i wish i still had my stock flywheel...

Bryan

P.S. sorry for post whoring

Sounds like something is wrong with you components. Other people have not expressed any dissatisfication with UR, Mueller, Stillen, or Fidanza. Our motor puts out lots of low-end power so the flywheel shouldn't have any ill-effects. I'm thinking it may be your clutch that is causing you grief and not the flywheel itself. BTW, the Fidanza unit weighs 10lbs...but it's suppose to be lightened in the right places that benefit performance.
