tranny prob: what causes excessive play in shifter
tranny prob: what causes excessive play in shifter
?
well i've had my differential bearings gone bad for a LONG time. I have sooooooooo much play (shifter rod) when i'm in gear. what would have to be damaged in order for that to occur? It feels like i'm in neutral when i move it around. I'm just curious, thanks.

there are two black rods that connect the shifter to the tranny. one shifts the gears in the tranny, the other is stabilizer to make it feel/work right. could it be possible the bolts backed loose on the tranny end of the stabilizer bar? i know if the stabilizer is loose it can get verry nasty (from experience) ..
hi guys....
it's been 1 month since I made this thread, but thought i should just bring it up.
My tranny is under rebuild right now and I had a quick question. About this shifter play... is this something inside the tranny itself or is it something outside (connected to shifter somewhere)??
I'm talkin about the detent ***** and springs. Thanks!

the ***** are inside the tranny and they are pressed up against the rods using spring force. the rod itself has a notch in it whrere they rest in. theres also 1 spring(return spring) thats located directly under the shifter stick thats conected to both shift rods and if that spring is worn out then it will wobble around when the stick is in neutral.

gotta talk like i know something to the tranny ppl now lol
lol, i know the rods are outside the tranny, the spring i thought was outside tranny too. and the ball holding the shifter is inside the tranny but its not part of tranny. Not sure if u were looking for parts of the tranny or parts seen inside teh tranny...
