What is a good strut/spring combo for the front?

Hi! I am new to this forum. Nice site!

I have a '93 GXE with 140k miles (it's my daily commuter) and it's still kickin strong! Only problem right now is that it needs some new front struts. I'm on a suspension upgrading roll right now since installing coil-overs in my BMW M3, and would now like to improve the handling in my maxima. My question is this:

What does everybody recommend for replacement front struts? This is my daily driver, so ride comfort is important (if I want handling I'll drive my other car). I have noticed a few brand of struts for the 3rd gen Max (Boge, KYB, Koni) and wondering what is the best compromise between performance and ride comfort? I don't really need to lower it.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the board.. I suggest reading other posts on the forum or using the search function for stuff like this, as it's very commonly discussed.

as for a suggestion, I'd say go with Tokico struts. if you want to lower it a bit also, do either Eibach or Suspension Tech springs... if you don't want to lower it, get the suspension tech sway bar set. helped the car corner a LOT better.

Thanks

I'm not looking for *****-to-the-walls performance... but if i can replace my struts with something better than stock for roughly the same price, I will. I don't plan on lowering it, but its ok if it is lowered.

Tokico struts shold be good enough for what you're looking for.

How are Tokico's when combined with stock springs? Is that an ok combination? I may not want to spend any more than $100 per side and i'm doing the front only. I can purchase replacement (i assume stock or similar) for about $50 per strut. I'll pay a little more (even double) if there is a decent increase in performance. New springs would not be cheap... especially if it meant I had to do all 4 instead of just the front.

You can try shox.com.....I paid $550.00 shipped for tokico's and Eibachs from stillen who are known to charge a bit more. $300.00 for tokicos and $200 for eibach springs. I can't help with how just shocks and stock springs would feel like.

you'll definitely want to step up to the Toks over KYB of factory then. they're around $100 per strut on the front, but definitely worth it. anything else (other than springing $550 for a set of Konis) and you'll kick yourself every time you switch between the M3 and the Max.

Either will work fine with stock springs, but I highly suggest going with a little stiffer spring also. maybe just picking up a set of used SE springs for a 3rd gen will make you happy. I've got a set of fronts, but the rears are somewhere in a junkyard with the rest of my parts car when I scrapped it.
