I know tinted windows are illegal in my state... NY, but I see a lot of cars with tinted windows. I am thinking about getting mine tinted but I am afraid of getting caught. I got too many tickets already... What do you guys do? Do you just accept the risk of getting pulled over or is the police more laxed about this law as long as you don't have a thick tint?

After some search, I found a shop who offered to do tinting for $180... is that about average cost for this service? Also, I am thinking about tinting it charcoal/black all around except windshield on my maj blue max... what do you think?

Drive V-E-R-Y S-L-O-W-L-Y.............

Tinting your windows is a gamble, and in NY, real dark tint in the range of 15% or below is sure to be asking for trouble. If you want the tint, but don't want to have that "what if I get busted for really dark tint" running in the back of your mind, go with a lighter tint, like 35%. It's still something, but you won't have that low profile effect.

Otherwise, get the darker tint and cross your fingers.

well, im in NY and i got 2 tinted window tickets on my SE-R, it has 20%. My max has 35% and i drive past cops and they dont even look twice. But, if you plan on putting on that mirror crap tint, i wont be surprised if they pull you over. Nothing darker than 35%, or you are asking for trouble.

Go 35%, will make a difference and not "look" illegal.

Try to get a lower price $180 is retail, I can get $125 but that is the installer himself (no markup).

Move to AZ where tint is legal and double limo tint is seen everywhere. I'm getting my entire car double limo-tinted very soon.

I got 5% in my Camaro and regretted it. So dark it looked like night time during the day in the car.

I guess each to his own.

It looks nice with limo, but the problem I had with my old car was I couldnt see **** at night. I have 20% right now and during daytime its pretty cool, at night it gets dark to the point were no1 could tell who is driving and best of all I CAN SEE! Hell I told you be4, I almost ran over an old dude and his dog down the street from my house at 8pm due to the limo. With double, 4get that its just asking to run into a brick wall while in reverse. Mark my words Steve.

i had 20% on my `93 white/beigh maxima and i have 20% on my 2001 maxima black/black -- which makes the tint even darker b/c of the dark interior. i have never been pulled over for my tints in my new car, i actually got pulled over in my white though. bottom line is, if you drive like a jackazz then you're going to get pulled over. cops really don't pull people over for tints alone, they want to get a couple of tickets on a person, not just a $75 one. but they do like going after those "flashy" mirror tints.

You ran over a guy and his dog? Damn! Where they ok? Thats why i cant understand why people go any darker than 35%. I had 20% and couldnt see sh*t at night especially in poorly lit areas. I can only imagine what double limo would be...why not just paint your windows black?

Almost! I was like 1 ft (or less ) away and the guy was at my fender. I kinda pulled in front of him while he was walking. I was 16 at the time and having and old guy (like 70 something) start to cuss and yell was kinda entertaining. I wasnt gonna get out and beat him or nothing, hell it was my fault so I just took off.

Steve thats pretty dark good luck with yours, but I like mt 20%. Mark need to find those caps. Btw when you get it done let me know I wanna see just how dark it is.

Drive at night, avoid cop hang out spots, move with the flow of traffic, avoid major roads or highways if possible.
I drive around with 20% in MD which is illegal and have no problems. Plus I think, cops don't stress you as much when you have a brand new car with tint. It's the hooptees that get the most attention.

I would open my moonroof whenever there's cop around. I find that the tint will not look as dark as when there's no light through the top.

i live in nassau county on long island and drive a 2k3 sheer silver with black interior and 20% black tints. it didnt look as dark as i thought it would with the silver exterior and dark interior. never had a problem with cops yet. like every1 said...as long as u drive normally you should be fine unless the cop is a ball buster like this 1 my friend ran into. But he had a 20% black tint on a ford taurus that looked darker than mine and it was also cuz his car looks sketchy cuz its tints on a non-sports car which made him look like a drug dealer.

I would go with 35% all the way around, its enough that from the outside the car looks good but not so much that it will draw attention from police. I have yet to be pulled over due to tints, but I think I did get followed because of them, was that or my hyperwhites...

My my first car ever I had 5% on the back, 15% on the side, and 5% strip on the wideshield. Never had problems with cops. But worried now that my luck will change if I try to do the same on my 2k Max.

i just put some DynaMat on my windows. it does a good job keeping the car cool. if i need to turn, i just stick my head out the sunroof. but on straight streets i needed to get SONAR installed. either that or have a midget, sorry- little person, sit on my hood and give me general directions.

seriously, anything lower than 35% is f*ckin dangerous. you cant see when you turn onto poorly lit streets.

I live in NYC, have 20% tint and I burn in my car, which probably isn't the best idea since Bloomberg is cracking down and he's pulling cars if caught, but on the flip side I have sooo many PBA stickers and I have an FOP license plate border so I've been good to go....

I could care less, I hate bright sun and I need darkness too

35% is the legal limit here in WV. I'm getting ready to tint my Silver 2000 SE, but it already has that "barely noticeble factory tint" on it. Putting 35% on it would make it officially illegal (they're starting to crack down and use electronic tint readers), but I found a place that can put on about 37%, so it will still be legal. And they're cheap! I'm getting mine done for $99, and 10$ for the windshield strip!

I've had 5% (registered at 3%), and I saw fine at night. I got rid of it though for 30% which is legal.

im in NY too, and I have 20%...and I've never gotten hassled, and im not worried at all. Unless you get pulled over for doing something else, and the cop is in a bad mood, I dont think you'll get a ticket just for tints.

if you cool with your doctor then have him write you a note....my doc did...it basically states that due to my 'special' skin condition i can't have direct sunlight exposure & tints are needed on my car window due to this

I have 18% tint. Girlfriend's uncle owns a tint shop and he gave me a sticker saying it was 35%...which is legal. I've had a cop ask about it, but when he saw the sticker he let it go. I know he didn't believe it and told me to go check it out because it couldn't be right. This cop didn't have tint meter on him so he had no proof. Just went you get pulled over, roll your front window all the way down and maybe turn on a light. It has worked for me.

5% all around including sunroof. I have black leather and it gets hot during the summer months in so cal. I drive normal most of the time so that cops usually dont bug me too much. I also have a fire fighter stickers which also helps.

Never had a problem with either of my two cars.

I have owned a 300zx TT for 7 years and that had 28% titanium and maybe got pulled over 2 times. My 2003 maxima has been good too. (knock on wood). Key is not to go too dark!!!!!!!!!! And a police shield helps a little too...

I've got 5% all around w/frost interior. I had 20% before but w/the frost int. it wasn't dark enough for me b/c you could basically see everything inside. I just open up the sunroof and roll down the windows if I see a cop ahead or something. I've passed by state troopers w/no probs at all (even w/the windows up). I just got pulled over though recently in a small town just for the tint -- wasn't speeding. If you go 5%, accept the fact that you could be pulled over and ticketed or else just go 20% and avoid most, if not all, problems w/cops & tints.

Double limo is seen everywhere but not legal. Tinting laws in AZ are as follows: Any amount of tint on rear windshield, or rear windows (if equipped), and maximum of 35% tint on front windows and from the top of front windshield until the ASL line.

With that being said my car has limo tint on rear windows and rear windshield, and 15% tint on the front windows with no tint on front windshield. Eventually, I will be putting another layer of all of this on my car, so that it is impossible to see in during the day or night.

You don't want to get caught? Roll down the fuggin windows! Whenever I've been pulled over I roll down the windows before the officer gets to my car, so that there is no question. I almost always drive with my front windows down because I don't believe in AC.
