Minor cuts + Bruises + 20mins = Changed Fuel Filter

I finally got off my a$$ and changed the fuel filter. The spark plugs were just changed last week. The car has 54,6xx miles on it and I don't think the filter has ever been changed. It took about 20mins. I took off the intake, then with numerous pulls, the fuel filter. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Fuel did spill everywhere, but I had old T-Shirts under the filter to absorb it.

I started the car, and noticed a deeper idle exhaust and louder hissing from the intake...sounds cool!! Drove the car and noticed better throttle response and maybe a little more power also. I am very happy that I changed it and I regret not doing it before.

Now...everyone go outside and change it!! It's really not as hard as you think

I been working on the car this weekend and so far have changed plugs, fuel filter, oil, PCV valve and cleaned the K&N filter. I also cleaned the trottle body and adjusted the idle. Drives like new now. Next week going to change the knock sensor; got a good deal on one on Ebay. Car has 64K miles.

UPDATE

I took apart the filter and I wish I had a camera so I could take a pic of it. The filter element is BLACK and seems like there is sludge in the filter. It's been 54,8xx miles.

If you see my filter, you will want to change yours immediately!

BTW...taking apart the filter for fun took 30 mins

i changed mine today.. did that and cleaned the TB at same time.. i dunno why all you guys had bloody knuckes it was easy if you just take off your MAF and airbox first then pull off the fuel filer hoses. also i dissconnected my fuel pump fuse and tried to start teh car a few times to release the fuel pressure and not have soo much fuel leak when u get the hoses off. ??.mayb its just me. i put in and oem nissan 3z filter. damn that thing is big..didnt notice much of a difference though.. jsut revs up smoother from 1-3 k.

I have it on the list of things to do this upcoming weekend along with Oil, Plugs, Put in my new (hopefully it will arrive this week) Frankencar intake, FSTB and OBX Catback (supposedley on its way also). I got to do the PCV valve too.
Is there an added benefit in putting in a 300ZX filter?

Changing fuel filter isnt hard, but I went to the emergency room while dooing mine.!! Be careful if you decide to cut the line with a razor! Watch those fingers!!

I changed my oil, oil filter, fuel filter and PCV valve last wednesday and it only took me an hour to do it. Now i gotta go get some new set of sparkplugs....

Make sure you release the pressure of the fuel lines by removing the fuse for the fuel pump under the dash and cranking the car a few times until it won't start and then start removing the fuel filter by twist and pulling at the same time.

3z filter is just bigger.. like 2x bigger..fits on perfectly(the mount that holds the stock one stretches) only reason this is an "upgrade" is because its bigger.. hold more fuel, so it should be more responsive when u stomp..and longer filter change intervals more room to hold deposits. and im guessing a filter for a 3z should have better fuel flow then a max..but i duno bout that assumption. its prolly made of the same stuff. it looks cool though.

You can also get the filter at your local Autozone, Pep Boys or Discount Auto. That sucker is big.
