Have there been transmission problems with the ACT clutches?

I'm trying to find what the best clutch is. There seem to be a lot of threads siimilar to this one.

Geo, please tell me the pics in your homepage are photoshopped. If not, you definetely have the nicest custom trunk I've ever seen! Looks almost like a Benz from the back. sweet.

verrry true. Lets just say its easier to cause tranny problems with an ACT clutch. Remember you have some high mileage so don't get that thing in there and chirp the hell outta third, im still under 100k so im havin fun with it, but its like maybe a couple days outta the week. I love the clutch, love it over stock, love how it races and the pedal feel. Just only do it if your 100% sure you can install right or will oversee a shop installing it. Shops are poo when it comes to installing crap.

You should also consider the Exedy stage 1 clutch. I have it on my car and love it. Exedy makes the clutch disk for ACT. They really specialise in Japanese cars and have a great reputation. Contact Maxx Tuning if you are interested, or check the GD forum.

How is the pedal feel compared to stock, any chatter, and is it smooth for everyday driving?

No chatter at all. The pedal actuall felt a lot softer than my OEM clutch with 155K on it. Yes it is perfect in my mind for everyday driving.

This is the Exedy "stage 1" not the Exedy "stock replacement" like you see on Ebay, correct? How much are they going for? wheres the
cheapest place to pick one up? Thanks.

This is NOT the ebay clutch, it is the stage 1 clutch I think 36% more clamping power than the OEM. You can check the GD forum, look for Maxx Tunings group deal, his name is PJ who is running the deal. Great guy, great company.

If you drive like you just stole the son of a bisch from the parking lot, dont expect the tranny to last. Plain and simple you drive like you have no sense it is not going to last. I installed a ACT on a org members car, I now have his brother telling me how he chirps from 1st to 4th all the times. That is not wise is not my car either but come here and post the ACT broke your tranny thats just plain B/****!

price is probably 350. As far as chatter, in all honesty, i did have some chatter and still do if i let out the clutch without a little gas. The ACT doesnt like to slip. It either wants to to take off or dont. This isnt a clutch that you feather and ride, you can, but you can tell it doesnt like it. Pedal feel in my opinion is significantly harder just towards the floor when your at the peak of disengaging. I installed mine last summer so I have a pritty good experience with it. But like I said I have no regrets except in traffic sometimes its annoying, but it lets ur clutch last longer becuz you dont ride it like you normally do with the OEM one.

Great info!

I am going to be purchasing a clutch in the next few days and am extremely interested in the ACT. Although, im thinking of going back to an OEM clutch as well. My OEM clutch was replaced at 60k with no slipping b/c I just wanted something a bit more sporty. I got the Dual Centerforce $hit clutch and it only lasted me 21,000k and it is now shuttering and somehow the car makes a clicking noise when engaged and disengaged. Weird (anyone know what this noise is)? So, I would like my next clutch to last even though I will probably be hard on it. Is the ACT going to stand the test of time unlike the DCF clutch???
