So I take the new '03 in...

to the dealer to get the tint fixed, remove the dreaded "day time running lights" and fix the weather stripping. I have 1100 miles on it now and like to make my first oil change at 1000 miles to get the original break in contamination out. I ask while it's in to give me my free oil change. What does the service writer say? "Why do you want to change your oil, the Maxima has a special oil in it good for at least 7500 miles" My wife is there so I refrain from confrontation and say "I just like to do my first oil change at 1000 miles He looks at me confused and while holding back himself says "ok".

I always have a problem with service! I base my experience with oil and changes off of oil analysis. If I know the oil has contamination within the first 1000 miles of the motors life from break in why the *** should the @sshole service writer think he knows better?

Anyway, just got done putting some fresh Mobile 1 in the '01 and the stock airbox is back on for the summer

My dealer told me when I bought the car to bring it in for it's first oil change at 1000 and they would do it free---and I did. They recommend changing at 3k-3750. I'm sticking with the 3k myself.

No onw will get ****ed off, its a fact, he is a service guy.. but that doesnt make him knowledgeable... just like when i took in my car for the ECU update, the dam service manager didnt know about the TSB... I guess it depends on the person... if they are doing it for free, they have nothing to gain i guess, it may not hurt... but then again that oil could be good to keep for a long time...

Not ****ed

I guess 11 years of racing Nissan/Datsuns and a sphere of infuence related to cars (not internet related) means nothing compared to some service writer who never gets his hands dirty or even knows wtf I am talking about half the time. I doubt it.

See that smilie face? Not mad

I realized he said 7500 miles.... he must have worked for honda, because nissans suck for having oil changes ever 3000... i wish it was 7500 like my accord.... oh well...

and dont let your wife prevent you from being confrontation..... just b!tch slap him next time and say, i gave you an order, i want it done, now get out of my sight! Might make you seem more sexy to your wife

I hate service people. Even if they have no idea what so ever they still feel ther're right. even with a tsb in hand the guy told me he was gonna charge me a labor fee! UNDER fukin warranty.

I don't even think what he said is true. When I first got my Maxima I posted a thread about whether or not we had "break-in oil" in our cars and alot of ORG members, whom I believe, wrote back and said that we did not. Some manufacturers do use special break-in oil, however Nissan uses regular oil in their engines and as such it's perfectly fine to change it at 1000 miles. And if 7,500 miles until the first oil change was the norm...don't you think they might mention that in the section of the owner's manual dealing with the break-in period?

This type of mis-information is why alot of service writers suck IMO. They don't work on cars, they sit behind a desk all day and set up appointments, and somehow that makes them Mr. Goodwrench.

What was wrong with the weather stripping? I think mine is f**ked up on one of the doors after 3500 miles.

Whats up with the tint we have had problems with our tint that the Nissan dealer put on our Max and z as well? After 2 attempts we had bubbles still after a few days so they paid to have ours done at a shop of our choice for 2 cars!

No $hit? This tint job has got to be the worst I have ever seen.

I hope the retint looks good. We will see, picking up the car in an hour.

BTW I ordered the window stripping on the 2nd of May. They called me 4-5 days ago to tell me it was in and to bring the car down. I bring the car down and now the service writer tells me they have to order the window stripping. WTF? Why the *** did they call me to have the weather stripping put on for? Now I have to leave the damn car there again another day.
