Just got robbed at the honda shop

I posted a thread yesterday about going to a local import shop to get my timing advanced on a 2k2 (I would have posted a reply to it, but can't find it). Anyway, they drive my car into the bay (won't let me in to watch) and in about 10 minutes they pull it back out and say that they were able to read the current settings (timing, idle, etc.) however they said that there were no provisions for adjustment. I was told that it read my timing at 14 and my idle was 750rpm.

So...multiple choice time...

a)they have a "read only" odb tool?

b)they didn't even hook up their tool to my car because 750 sounds high for my idle

c)i got screwed over by a punk who kept saying "those ones" as in..."i like those ones here, but those ones over there are good, too"

d)the timing advance can't be done on a 2k2 and those who have had it done got screwed as well

I called several places in town and this was the only shop that would even try it. I'm ****ed.

you can't make ecu adjustments on a 2k2 with an obdII. you need to have it done by a nissan dealership with a ConsultII.

Had mine done a while ago, took about 10 minutes once my tech found out the procedure. Had my MAF replaced today and the ECM reprogrammed, figured my timing was reset back to 15^DTDC and guess what, we went to change it to 17^ and the display showed that the advance was still there even after the reprogramming. So if the technician knows the procedure using a Consult-II the base timing can be advanced 2 degrees and it will stay there! The problem is finding a tech that knows how to do it, my tech has 14yrs experience with Nissans and didn't think it could be done until I pestered him enough to research and figure it out.

I bet service writers and technitions freakin hate the internet. We know whats going on before they do. Maybe they need to start following Maxima.org .

The tech that did mine was about my age and knew WTH he was doing. I watched the entire procedure and it only took a few mins. While he was in there I had him bump my idle +25 rpm. Next time I'll have him bump it some more.

I called my 2 local dealerships and both said it couldn't be done and then they both said they wouldn't do it. So, basically I can't get this done anywhere close to where I live. Sucks. How did yall talk your service people into doing this for you?

I took a copy of a previous Consult readout into the dealership showing that it could, in fact, be done. It's hard to argue when the facts are staring you right in the face.

I am a Nissan service advisor and usually have the ORG running in the background behind my ADP screen! Net access at work is great.

You are a rare bird indeed, Lonz. I always love running into Service Advisors and Techs who take more of an interest in their jobs than simply receiving their paychecks.

All I can say to that is thank you. I kinda wish more service writers would do that. (except it would be more difficult to hide mods)

Since you have access to the info do you think you could post the procedure info here on the org so we can print it out to take with us when we go in to see our advisors. As long as there is no info on it that can be traced back to you it should be safe.

Also is there any truth to the post about an ECU update for the drive by wire as posted in this thread

Thanks for the help.

Quick question Lonz, you got a 14hp increase over stock with an UDP and intake?

if you have a good relationship with the service dept or at least a service writer. if not i would get to know them or not even worry about it.

Free for me. Probably not for everyone else. It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Those and the 2 degree timing advance, 14 whp increase but only little over 5 wtq. It carries the power higher into the rpm range as well, so far I'm very happy with the results.
