First oil change such a ****

Just changed the oil and filter for the first time... 3400 miles. All I have to say is whoever screwed the OEM filter on need not seal it on with adhesive! Im sure there wasnt. Spent 20 agonizing minutes trying to turn it by hand, then tried to bang it loose with a hammer and screwdriver and finally I took a giant pair of pliers crushed the filter and behold it came off. Ugh, at least I wont have to worry about tearing the filter out like that. Phew...

Re: First oil change such a ****

I did the same thing! After about 15 minutes of trying every which way I could grab the stupid thing I gave up. Then a buddy of mine pulls up and starts laughing and calling me a pu$$y because I couldn't get the damn thing off. So I told him to give it a try and he proceded to spend the next 10 minutes or so cursing at the thing as it wouldn't budge for him either. I ended up going to Pep Boys and getting a cheap little filter wrench, it took the thing off in 10 seconds.

Ha Ha, tell your friend who's the ***** now ! I seriously considered buying one of those wrench things but Im too stubborn and proud to spend another 10 bucks on top of the filter and oil I know the wrench will wind up collecting dust. At least we know we didnt over tighten it this time thank goodness.

The oil filter thread is very important, don't damage it or oil leak might occur in future

Yeah i was making sure that only the filter itself was subject to my neandertal abuse. Hopefully nothing will leak down the road... so far its okay. Keepin finger crossed.

I used to own a 94 max and the oil filter always came off pretty easy. My 2002 is a different story. That booger is hard as hell trying to get it off.

Just check your engine oil regurly, and check if there is any oil residue on the garage floor. If you see nothing, then I think it's fine

Go buy a set of Strap Wrenches. It will save you alot of time and frustration. Not to mention, you'll look like a pro and be done in like 15 min.

Or you can use the emergency oil filter removal tool. Jam a srewdriver into the thing to turn it loose. Just don't try to put the new filter back on that way.

I had to do that with my truck the first time I changed the oil in it.

VQ engines shouldn't run synthetic until 10k or so, as they don't fully break in all that quickly. Use a good quality dino oil like Castrol GTX until then.

Either that or use synthetics and stick with 3k intervals until 25k or 30k miles before full break-in occurs.

Royal Purple is one of the poorer synthetics out there from an empirical standpoint.

Save your money and get Mobil 1 SuperSyn or spend the same money on Amsoil Series 2000 synthetic from member iwannabmw.
