so do Exedy Stage 1 clutches suck or not... voice opinions please

Ok well I have no choice here because I already bought and have an Exedy Stage1 Performance clutch sittin in my room.

In my case, I bought the clutch because I wanted something w/ a little more grip than the stock OEM clutch... and also something that would last a long time (about 100k mi.) I am a daily driver... 95% highway and I don't do much spirited driving unless i'm in the mood... which is once a week or even less lol.

The clutch should satisfy me right? I've never felt the touch of an OEM clutch because my car was bought used w/ a Centerforce in there... but that POS crapped out on me at about 50k miles of it's life.

Please let me know why you guys like it or think it sucks... thanks!

edit: I am talking about the clutch sold by MaxxTuningUSA... not the ones people have bought from ebay.

I think there might be confusion. There are two type of Exedy clutch kits for sale? 1) From Maxxum Tuning. Should be okay and good to go. 2) From ebay. Who knows what parts/quality they are. Some should clarify when they are bittching or praising each unit

From reading what other ppl have written. It looks like it's definitely not as stiff as ACT. Almost like stock. But it does grip since it's 36% over stock.

The only people to install this clutch so far have raved about it. Like Jeff said, there are two different clutches people are talking about. The one off of ebay is just a stock replacement clutch, the one from the max tuning group deal was for a stage 1 clutch. Go look on Exedy's website, there are two different part numbers, one for the stage 1, one for the stock replacement, they are not the same thing and cannot be compared. I verified the part numbers from sellers on ebay and they are all selling the stock replacement clutch. Go install the stage 1 and enjoy!

I wonder where this guy got his Exedy from? This is the only negative post i have seen about it. He says its a stage 1 but i dont know...

The Exedy SUCKS definetly spend the money for the ACT. I have had the Exedy in my car for about 2 weeks and already the pressure plate went. It is making a real bad metal on metal grinding noise when you push the clutch pedal in and it has gotten really really stiff. I am going to have to have it replaced again but definetly with the ACT. It was a waste of $240 plus the $290 to install.

I think I am the only one on this site with an Exedy stage 1 clutch that is installed and broken in. Anyways I think it is great. It grabs a couple inches off the ground and grips great. The clutch has NEVER chattered like the ACT and actually EXEDY makes the discs for ACT. I mean you can chirp 3rd and even 4th if you really want to, I dont recommend doing this though. If you want to ask me anything just reply.

Oh and that other post by MONKEYMAX I am pretty sure he has the "ebay" version. There is a link to the site he got the clutch from and they seem to be a OEM replacement shop online.

No i have one too and its broken in. I think its great also not so much grip that it is hard to drive the car but pretty good. I squeal second and with some effort can chirp into third. It is not hard to drive at all and the pedal action feels a little smoother then stock. I only needed a few starts to get used to it and its great. Been broken in for a week and a half and haven't had any throuble with it. You will not be dissapointed.

Exedy is excellent for Nissans. avoid Senselessforce and ACT - stay far away from those. Senselessforce will simply die; ACT will attack your Borg Warner tranny. it is too harsh.

again >>>Exedy wins. Stage 1 organic disk for daily street.

Again, I LOVE mine. way better than Certerforce, but I dont remember about the oem feel. I know that it's stiffer than the Denterforce, and it was way softer than the oem

I used to have the Centerforce (that destroyed itself might I add) and now have the Exedy Stage 1...

I dont know what a stock clutch feels like cuz my VE 5spd came with the Centerforce but the Exedy pedal is INCREDIBLY softer than the Centerforce. I havent been able to get totally on it yet because I've only got about a 100 miles on it.

The pedal is soft but it seems to catch/grab pretty hard. It's almost weird because with the pedal being so soft you dont expect it to grab as quick as it does and, in turn, you might stall it.

is the "softer than OEM feel" of the Exedy annoying, or is it negligible once the driver's leg adjusts to it? does it feel "icky?"

I put an Exedy STG 1 Clutch kit in my Maxima and in about 1000 miles it started getting very very stiff and making a metal on metal grinding noise. I brought it to a local tranny shop and they told me the pressure plate is bad and I have to pull the boot back and spray the pressure plate and throw out bearing every other day so that I can use it.
