I'm debating between the two in terms of noise (bees in the can and drone production). Looking at past posts it seems that the new Cattman has a new flex design to make almost NO noise...wow... What about the new stillen 2 piece? The stillen pipe is about $100 cheaper and is now ceramic coated. If it's about the same loudness as the Cattman SS, I'm going with the Stillen...

I'm going to be running this with a 2.5" R/T Cat and A'Pexi WS Cat-Back...I know it will be louder than stock no matter what, but I'm looking for the more quiet setup. Thanks!

I have the 2 piece stillen, and I really don't think it's that loud at all. It's only slightly louder than stock, with a more meaty tone coming from the y-pipe, no hissing or bees in a can that I can hear. I'd think that your Apex will add more sound than the y-pipe will.
Cheston (Chesbosto) is running pretty close to the same setup as you have (with the stillen) and I've ridden around in his car, and the loudest part of his car has to be his CAI, followed by his APEXi exhaust, then the Stillen y-pipe, and the RT cat is just death silent.

if you want quiet...

than probably not the y-pipe or the exhaust..
i mean, you gotta pay to play man....

y-pipe alone will not add much noise...if you have full cat-back...oohhh...now that's a different story~

True true, gotta pay to play. I don't mind the increased noise factor...just don't want too much of it like on those LOUD AS HELL ricey civics. If the A'pexi is more quiet than the CAI then I think it's pretty quiet. I have a cone K&N now and it's fine. Anyone hear both pipes? Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I will be getting the Stillen Y-pipe for the sake of saving $$$.

I have the 2 Piece Stillen Y-Pipe,

and my friends say I have a weed wacker under my car, specially when you first start it up sssssssing,I kind of like a real loud car though but I don't care much for the beez sound.I would say go with the Cattman since I have never heard a single complaint about it and I have heard lots of complants with the Stillen piece. I would say Maybe I have a exaust leak or something or Stillen just screud up on my car but to many people here have the same problem with it.

Wow, it's that loud? Weedwacker?!?! Well, maybe that's exagerrated a little...I guess I'll stop by Stillen and take a listen for myself. I've heard so many swaying opinions, I don't really know which Y will be more quiet. I live close to Stillen in Costa Mesa, CA so I guess I'll judge for myself.

How's the supercharger deal going with Stillen? Drop me an email...

I have the new Stillen 2 piece, and it doesn't make any noise at all at normal driving. I think that the "weedwacker/bees in a can" was with the 1st gen stillen y-pipe, not the new ceramic coated one. It has a LITTLE bit of a hiss to it a WOT, but it is reletively quiet. It just gave a deeper note to the exhaust. I think it is great, and definitely very nice gains once my ecu adjusted. Good luck on your decision.

What about...

Passing the state inspection? Here in Texas, I have to get one every year, and I wanted to know if anyone's had any problem with getting their cars checked out.

And since the Y-pipe is illegal and all, does anyone know exactly why it's illegal? Is it just because no one bothered to get it CARB certified, or because they tried and it won't pass? Thanks

Ok, the Cattman is a better unit. No Noise at all till you add a catback, and I know, as I had it on my 96 Maxima. Its also Stainless Steel and not coated with anything that will change colors or fall off over time. As far as passing, I took mine to Lube and Go, and it will pass the sniffer. Just let the car run a bit right before the test.

Its illegal, because its removes some emission equipment (your pre cats which is never really legal for newer cars. Most tester won't even tell it from the stock unit as they are not "maxima" experts and you still have your main cat which they do look for. The precats was to help when the car is still cold. As they won't tell, and its still passes, is no problems. I'm also from Texas.

Out off all the parts to add the Maxima, the Y-pipe is the best. It adds great power, makes no noise, and doesn’t damage anything. Plus no cutting holes in fenders, or other budy modifications.

Why would a 2 piece be better?
