When I'm working it hard and then the trafic plugs up and I let off the gas fast the exhaust shoots upward to near 1500F, I'm not even touching the gas???

How are you measuring the temp on your exhaust?

 

EGT sensor. Odd post but he IS an avionics technician. If he does have a turbo, after a hard run, the turbo is extremely hot. And since you slowed down, it heat soaks the engine. This is why you idle turbo cars for few minutes before shutting off the car.

 

I'll see about mabe adding a oil accumulator/cooler to see if it will dissipate the exess.

My temp gague goes up under this condition, but not my egt's
