I'm removing the stock HU out of my '98 GXE and I have it completely out, however I can't get them damn screws on the bracket removed. I managed to pull 1 out but the other 3 are just about stripped. What should I do now?

 

I had the same problem with the phillips heads stripping out. Them little SOB's are tooooo tight.

I had to take my dremel with a cutting wheel and cut a deep groove into the screw and use a regular screwdriver to get them out.

Hardware store has replacements.

 

Yeah, I had the same problem. Like 4 of them stripped. I drilled em and used a screw extractor. The screws were tempered too, so drilling took a while. I was PO'd.

 

Same problem back in January...I took the caveman approach and beat the tihs out of the HU until it was in 1,000 pieces. Took an hour, but that did the trick...

 

Go by an Easy Out from Sears or where ever. They will come out! Easy Out, vise grips, and hammer works every time.

 

Okay guys...its 1000 times easier if you put force to tighten it a tiny bit..then back it off. Its soo much easier. ive done it that way about 100 times now. Only stripped one.

 

I got some friends who are going to school for motor cycles take an impact driver to it, busted em loose :-)

 

take a hammer and a philips head screwdriver and firmly hit the screw-head, that will break the lock between the screw and radio body. Then easily unscrew it.

and if that dont work just drill them out!

took your advice man and BAM the suckers came out in like 10 seconds...felt good getting some anger out though hehe!
