Hey guys, im new here, i got some questions about the Maxima ^_^

Yo, hey guys recently fell in love with the maxima, thought id join up with the forums to learn as much as i can.

Well,im almost 20, i live in Indianapolis, IN, i like cars and videogaming and computers and shiz. Right now i own a 1999 flame red Neon Expresso (basicly a Neon R/T, but with a horrid 3 speed automatic >_<) Mom's former car, she stuck me with the remainder of the payments, witch they had to get 17 freakin percent interest on.

So, i wanna get rid of it...despite the awesome handling and how much i love it. Thoughts on what i should get, hmm, i like hardcore performance and all around quality in handling, looks, accel, reliability, and the little bit of pimp factor. After considering tons of sport compacts, such as like a 99 eclipse turbo(horrid reliability reports, insurance up the *** for AWD-T), the WRX (too pricey) or like a used Integra or SI (tiny, im a big dude). So, recently, my extremly undecisive nature finally, for reasons unknown, decided on one thing.

I want a Maxima.

About a week or so ago, i had my first chance to drive a Maxima,(or Nissan in general) it was a 98 SE auto, it had evrything. I was simply blown away, ill admit my expectations were subconciously low, considering all the midsize sedans ive driven have been well....uhg (Camry V6, accords, mercury sable *barf*, impala etc) Since i heard maximas were hardcore, i gave it a go. Needless to say, i was absolutley blown away. The responsiveness, the classy feel, the power. Handling too, now, i know there are some complaints about the rear twistbeam setup, but for some reason i loved the way it felt. Also i see reports of ppl dominating autoX with them.

Anyway, bleh, im rambling, heres my questions.

What should i get? of course it will be a 5 speed SE, but, should i get a 1999 or a 2000? I like the looks of both, but what are the atvantages and disadvantages of them when compared to each other? Witch one is easier to break 14s? Witch is faster stock? I hear with 99 and 2000, you can hit 14s very easily with a 5 speed and just an intake and a high flow muffler. Also, when i go look for them, is there anything important i should know? Anything to check for? btw, i wont buy one that has more than 45k.

Anyway, Sorry about the long *** first post, just alot of stuff i want to know about the Maxima, my new love. =P

Oh and I yearn for the day i can say

"OMFG LOLOLOL j00r SLOWMARO g0T pWNED by A FAMLY CAR LOLOLO LOL oLO!!!!1!!111!1!!!1!"

I think that reading this article will answer a lot of your questions:

it really all comes down to looks on those two, they perform equally as well, with the 00-up being slightly better on freeway runs, however, im not a fan of 00-01 Maxs, only 02-up, so id say get a 99. Its the choice i made, easy to mod, decently fast stock (Friends running 15.1 with JUST K&N drop in filter..MaxPowerX), their more nimble IMHO, and lighter...

Good call on the 5speed as well...

Also, with the price difference of a 99 and 00, you can afford to Supercharge/Turbo your 99

I'd say a 98. I have a 99se, and realy don't like the immobilizer key. It has caused quite a few headaches when dealing with (replacing)the ecu. Plus it seems as though there are fewer after-market parts available. AND parts with the security system/electrical syster seem to be VERY year specific. Of course, there a still tons of parts available for these cars. I settled on a 99 because a low mileage 5 speed is really tough to find. (and the former university of wisconsin hockey coach owned it)
