Is it ok to start engine w/o anything connect to throttle body?

I currently don't have anything connected to my throttle body. What I mean by this is that my MAF, airbox, filter, and any other pipe and air scoope is not connected. So there isn't anything connected on the right side of my throttle body. Is it safe to start my engine without anything connected to the throttle body? Will it cause any damage to my vehicle. All I want to do is release my fuel pressure so that I can replace my fuel filter. So it just needs to be on for like 5 sec and then turned off and turned on again maybe 2 more times for 5 sec each until my car stalls.

it is not good since you have no filter in place. Plus if it starts it will run like crap. it only takes a few secs to reconnect the air box, MAF, and midpipe as one peice.

You'll trigger a CEL, which you will need to reset. Put it all back on, it only takes a second.

You don't need to do any of that. Just open the gas cap to unpressurize and get to work. A little fuel will come out but it's no big deal. And running the engine w/o the maf won't hurt it, you'll just run pig rich.

You can also remove the fuse next to the steering column for the feul pump and start the car untill it stalls, that should release pressure so you can install the feul filter

Even if you do crank it with just the intake piping disconnected, it will idle for about 10 seconds and then shut off completely.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll just reconnect everything before starting the car.
