Auto tranny popping loud when put in reverse
Auto tranny popping loud when put in reverse
The car has been acting wierd lately. Stalling at low idle, surging rpms with foot off the gas, sometimes 1200+ idle rpm when warm. Well today I got a chance to check the fluid. It looks new and smells ok, but the level is a tad low. Before I checked, when I cycled through the gears, when I put it in reverse from park, it made a loud thunk. I cycled the rest of the gears, and they were fine. When I made it back to park and put it in reverse again, once again it made a loud thunk and shook the car. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to add a little fluid and see if it cures it but it sounds like the tranny is going
i just got done doing the vb and i overfilled mine which made all my gears not respond once i came to a full stop. to move i had to throttle to 1k rpms and got more of a jerk, not really any noise. after i took out some fluid and got it in the tiny sweet spot everything is fine. reverse was the last gear to respond, i suppose since i dont use it very much.
on my old 90 when the fluid was too low the car would stick in certain gears, for instance i found it was stuck in 2nd and 3rd until i added more fluid.
try getting the fluid just right, make sure to check the fluid while the car is running and has been warmed up, and i think being in neutral is the optimum position.
good luck
